So which operating system do you rate the highest? Windows has the monopoly of course, but is it the best all rounder?

They all have their strengths and weaknesses which makes this poll very difficult. I run all three of these OSes and am satisfied by each.

I like the way Mac OSX works and it seems much more reliable than windows. My vote goes to Apple.

Windows = most compatible
mac = most fluid and visually satisfying. (The mac is for porn too)
Linux = my favorite. biggrin.gif
So great to play around with. It pleasures me so with it's GNOME and hard customization options. I find it really sexy. tongue.gif

Ubuntu is definitely the friendliest distro to start off on, plenty of hardware works out of the box and there's plenty of help out there for it too.

I believe OSX (Leopard) is the way to go. Gets the all rounder award!
I use Linux every now and again and the only place I use a Windows machine is at school.

That's odd, the only place I use mac is at school.

In terms of midi editing/sequencing/recorded software (something I was involved a lot in at school) the 'industry-leading' software is designed for mac or works best on mac so it wins in that respect.

Thanks Bread I will have a play when I have some spare time.

BTW, who voted 'other' and what OS were they actually voting for?

While I do like Leopard, I did not really get the full experience on my OSX86 box. Basically half of my hardware did not work(sound, wireless, networking). While I did get it on the internet with a USB modem. Anyhow I really think that I would love a Mac, but just cannot afford one as a student. I mainly use Windows now as I can run all of my Adobe applications smoothly on it. I also love Ultramon.
