Ok, I was just doing my usual 20 mile morning bike ride but half way through a huge storm caught up with me. Rain, thunder, lightning, entire road was about 5 inches underwater, and a miserable me. Anywho, I have a bike radio on my bike so I can listen to music while I ride (illegal to wear earphones on cycling trail). When I was just about home it had dawned on me that I had a higher chance of getting hit by lightning than normal. So I want to know if I was right...My theory was that since I had my radio on, a large amount of electromagnetic waves were being sent directly to my bike. I want to know if its possible for the lightning to catch the electromagnetic waves and follow the trail directly to my bike (probably killing me...).

nope, your bike radio carries a very minimal hazard and its not being "sent directly" to your bike, although i dunno what you actually mean by that.

Grumpy is right. Radiowaves are not sent to particular points, but rather out everywhere. The radio just picks up what waves happen to be around it. As such, having a radio on does not increase your risk of being hit.

There are other factors here though. (all very minor!)

1st, metal aerial? That might increase your chances a bit.

2nd, rubber tyres. This decreases your chances a lot, but this might be negated if:

3rd, water over the metal wheel rims. As this then gives a reasonable connection. But that depends on how fast you're going, as if you're going fast, the water will be only droplets, and that doesn't work.

There might be more, I'm getting bored now...

So basically, no difference.

Unfortunately for us...

Thats nice, I feel loved...
If it makes you feel any better, my cell phone got extremely wet and started taking pictures randomly. I have 400 pictures my laundry room on my phone, would be more but I ran out of space...So now I have to go through slowly selecting each picture and deleting manually.

LMAO – With all joking aside. . .
Well I am glad you got home safe because with all the screenshots you’ve taken while riding your bike with that nasty storm we been having lately we would have seen you on the news with a bunch of frame shots of you dying. Hehehehe

Glad you made it back home safely.

Well by that I assume you worked at those places so I have a question. First, I use AT&T. Next, the phone has started randomly taking pictures again. Should I bring it to my nearest AT&T store or can I just play this off as a poltergeist?.

Yes I did, and from past experiences they are just going to say "it got wet there isn't anything we can do about it".
Because insurance won't cover wet phones and the only place I know that can do any kind of repairs are corporate stores and even then I'm sure they won't bother. It's a business and they want you to buy a new phone.

What I suggest is getting one from a friend or off ebay. Then just take your sim card out and put it in the new one.

Be careful when you go to buy a new one, they will try to give you all kinds of discounts but at the expense of extending your contract another two years. If you can and have the money buy the phone and only the phone. If they ask to get your account phone number and all that tell them no, because I worked with a guy who used to log into peoples accounts then add stuff onto their bill like text messaging and internet because we got paid for that stuff.

Thats the reason I got fired because I didn't sell enough addons, and they didn't know what the other guys were doing. But the store closed down 4 or 5 months later after AT&T bought cingular back, at&t didn't think my store was an asset to the company. My boss had 3 stores in the area and they all closed. Stupid bitch.

I have a friend who works at AT&T. He said he can replace the phone with a new one for $10, just need to swap the sim cards out.

Friends make the world go around, if you've got the right connections you can get anything. Got the new Madden 09 game a day before it went out in stores and for only $20 cause my friend works with EA. Gota have friends in the right places.

Were you near tall buildings or power poles or even a tall tree? Chances are no you wouldn't have been hit if that was the case.

I was going to say the same thing as you, rolling. I wanted to just scroll down to my fast reply and say it but with past experiences of saying the same shit as other people cause I don't read everything, I decided on the contrary.

And yeah, if you were near building that are tall(er) and/or trees the chances are you were very low risk.
