Al Gore has just pulled a huge Jonathan Swift and we all fell for it. Nicely done.

What-- is Al Gore smart enough to "pull a Jonathan Swift"?

Someday people will look back on today's global warming panic and wonder, just as we (who lived through it and are old enough to remember) can now look back at the ice age panic of the 1950's, when young people (who never lived through the previous weather cycle) were saying, "It's colder than it's ever been! Someone ought to do something about it!" Man just isn't big enough to control the weather.

It makes good sense to use resources wisely, and not waste the riches that God has put on this earth. But saving or wasting electricity will not add or subtract one-tenth of one degree to the overall temperature of the earth. Check it out. There are plenty of responsible scientists on the internet who will explain it to anyone who will stop panicking long enough to listen and read.

And putting politicians in charge of regulating energy use will guarantee maximum waste and inefficiency in energy usage, just as it historically does in nearly every other field of human activity.

When I see Al Gore and his rich "liberal" friends riding bicycles instead of limos I might start giving them credit for at least being sincere.

Generally where I live (Rochester, somewhat upstate New York), we've had weather around 50-60 degree one day and the next day we get hit by harsh snow storm. It's really awkward.

AH!! SHIT!! RUN!!

Oh, wait, false alarm. That was a movie, my bad people.

(btw, that guy on the right looks awful happy considering he's about to get taken out by a giant fricken wave)

haha aussiemcqr, that was "The Day After Tomorrow". It was portrayed as a serious movie, but so much of it was pure crapola. I especially liked the part about how it was so cold that concrete was freezing and cracking, yet those two dudes were sleeping in a tent and trapsing accross the countryside.

Anyways, my own observations about the effects of climate change. Living in Toronto, I have noticed the following consistent changes over the last 20-25 years.

1. Spring comes earlier than it used to. At the same time spring as a season is shorter.
2. Fall comes a little later, and there is less variation in the color of the leaves, more leaves just look dead or burnt in the fall.
3. Winter doesn't seem as cold, but on average there is more snow, and it lasts longer.

there is no doubt global warming is hitting our loving earth in no time. we can all se how the global temperature is rising. you dont need to to go further, just look around where you live. let alone the rising of sea level, can you not feel how hot the summer is being? i am getting fed up of this heat, and i just want to ask the naturalists one question, 'Whats the point of shouting against global warming if you can't actually do anything?'

All you can do is do what you can, it's better than doing nothing at all. Lots of people are taking that approach. Some people will never be convinced, so you can't spend your time worrying about them, or waiting for them to get on board.

The earth has an innate ability to heal itself, if we give it half a chance.

If you google personal carbon footprint , you will find all sorts of information about what individuals can do.

There are so many who are crying over the issue of global warming but there are very few who are serious and are taking necessary precautions. Congress needs to enact new laws that cap carbon emissions and require polluters pay for the global warming gases that they produce. Send a message to your elected officials, letting them know that you will hold them accountable for what they do -- or fail to do -- about global warming.

I remember a few years back when the Bush government rejected the Kyoto Accord. Shortly after, a number of states started acting on their own to reduce emissions, rather than fall in line with the feds. I thought that was pretty cool.

Making a big issue out of global warming is lame. Notice that the only people who talk about it are journalists and not engineers. As a civil engineer with years of experience, I can guarantee that it's the huge issue the media tries to fool people into thinking. Nature has it's way of fixing itself. 15 years ago, people used to nag about damage in ozone layer. Then the ozone layer fixed itself. All "global warming" will do is move seasons a bit and do some shifting in ecosystems/weather from area to area. For example in countries on the Mediterranean coast, summers will get hotter and winters will get colder.

Note that I don't live in the US so I don't know what is happening there. But what I said above is very accurate in the rest of the world.

Global Warming is a dramatically urgent and serious problem. Programmable thermostats will automatically lower the heat or air conditioning at night and raise them again in the morning. They can save you $100 a year on your energy bill.

Unless you like live in Alaska and like to keep your house at 120 degrees Celsius. Although I think the cost of your energy bills would be the least of your issues in that situation.

But seriously, that sounds like a good idea unless you wake up freezing at 3am like I occasionally do (and yet I live in Florida, weird). I can definitely see the advantages of that though.

I hate to debate this, however, I just cant let this conversation go.

Alright its not all about the Earth, there are stars out there. The Universe is expanding every second. That leaves the the planets cold and isolated. At some point we will meet another Ice age, its highly possible, and highly possible its going to move us away from the sun. Thus in about maybe 1000 years or so when the Sun turns into a Red Giant we will already be pretty far away and frozen up. SO when the sun turns to a red giant, Earth will restore to a Balanced temperature planet.

Being an Australian, I need to point out that it has not been any hotter here than 7-8 years ago. The summers are still hot and the winters are still cold, but nothing out of the ordinary. Sure there are some odd days but there is nothing substantially weird.

In case some of you did not know, we are either in (or coming up to) an El Niņo. Which can cause some crazy weather.

I like how I started this a year ago and its still going...

I personally think that Climate Change is real, and I agree that it is a natural occurrence for Earth that has happened before, but I also think that the rate at which is occurring is faster because of human's misuse of Earth. There are more environmentally friendly ways to do mostly everything, except maybe logging seeing how that is entirely not environmentally friendly, and I dont see the harm in at least trying more environmentally friendly and usually more efficient methods.

Its hard to argue against human's negative effects on Earth's level of pollution.

Definitely exists. I' ve seen the effects when visiting places in rural China and India that are so badly affected by it. You can feel the pollution in the air and see the effect on plants and animal life. Farmers too they have it bad with farms that used to grow tropical plans (areas where lots of rain) are now being forced to grow more arid plants (because the area is now really hot and gets like 1 rainfall a year).

People who deny it either haven't seen the real effects or just don't want to believe it cuz it means we may have to change the way we consume.
