EMO is a type of music EMO ISNT people going around cutting themselves. Enlighten yourself, and see my post about stop discriminating in the Homos thread. EMO is barley a type of music, its mostly just ripped from metal/punk EMO means emotional and its the type of person you are. You don't have to dress the part to be emo, alot of people are. |

Okay, so they derived Emo from emotional, which turned to a genre of music? Lame.
So who was the dumbass that set the stereotype for emos cutting themselves anyways? |

Why dang? People who cut themselves should automatically die, waste of a human body. i agree i hate the whole emo scene *shudders* - people who smoke weed and cut themselves and have long fringes don't deserve to have a right to live. Waste of living cells. except for the music. music is good. even though its a rip. |

Well, firstly I don't see what is wrong with people who show off their scars, I mean, it is the height of cool, isn't it? I have friends who tattoo their own faces using blades and ink. And to be frank, I think its pure awesome and I look up at them with admiration. Its not a way of dealing with problems and can be a problem itself, as I soon figured out. Cutting is addictive. It starts off with a bit of a thrill but as soon as you get into the habit, you need to keep cutting yourself just to keep feeling "normal". It becomes your automatic reaction to anger or anxiety. I got septicemia from using dirty blades and shit, but that didn't stop me thinking it was all awesome and cool and everything. In conclusion, if you're self-harming, look for something less pointless to do. Drugs, therapy, seeing friends, maintaining a relationship - far better for you than slicing your own skin for the hell of it. Its not any worse than using drugs. If you seriously think that drugs "dont harm your body too much" then you have something seriously wrong in your head. Everyone thinks they're stronger than drugs. that they need them for help and can get off them whenever. Why does nobody understand addiction. Its stronger than anything. Even when you think you're "clean off" something. the slightest whiff of junk and you're back on it again. It stays with you for life. Even if the drug itself doesn't mess you up, the lifestyle that goes with it can ruin you. being an addict. Using needles that aren't sterile. infections. blood poisoning. contaminated doses. ODing. |

Dwayne What was the point of starting this topic? If someone self harm they do it at there own will.. Emos are what they are and what they want to be. As you can see EMOruffino is a very intelligent person why would he want to harm his self ? He has everything to look forward to. (Sorry to use you as an example EMOruffino) so why not leave emos/skaters etc... alone there human nothing different so dont judge people when you don't know them.

No matter what people say, MOST do it for attention. People who flaunt around how "emo" they are and cut themselves and show off their scars and bitch about their problems to everyone - shame on them. Especially when their problems really aren't that serious, and there are better, more productive ways to deal with them. These kinds of people do it because it's about conforming to a label that they want to have. It's just about as ridiculous as those who call themselves "punk." Scum of the fucking earth. agreed X12 As you can see EMOruffino is a very intelligent person..... thanx Basically, self-harm isn't exclusive to "Emos" as your post hints at. This topic should not even have mention about emos tbh, it should be solely about self-harm. this is also very very true.... |

So is this topic about self-harm or scar tats... Back in the day, some places had laws where it was against the law. Lets say this topic is about Self harm as attempted suicide. Back in the day, if you commited suicide, it was a FELONY, and all your possessions and property would be forfeited to the king and so forth.
Perhaps ppl harm themselves because they want attention or want others to feel their pain, or maybe even want to cause pain for others. Maybe they harm themselves because their depressed, if thats the case, i think depression is based on their values of good and bad and their tastes, they may have a lazy personality. Their values turned on them and they cant get their way anymore, so they sit there and pout, and poof depression magically appears. Maybe its a atheist or power struggle thing. I just wanted to comment on it by mentioning the common law back in the day. That seemed like a serious crime back in the day, and still is today. ON THE ART OF SCARRING THEIR BODIES TOPIC: Whats the point of that trend of ppl scaring themselves... Are they trying to get brownie points from their peers. Wow that must of hurt, wow, you must had alot of courage, you sure are a cool dude...Come on maan, if you dont get scarred, your chicken...We look down on chickens, we dont level ourselves...No man, its art man, I wanna seek my own identity man. Not much into either one of the topics mentioned, but had a comment, if your involved in either one, no problem, have you ever tried to find the motives of your actions, I speculated but always wondering and looking for other reasons |

The biggest thing I hate about self harm is when teenagers, with absolutly no problems in the world do it, and then when questioned about why they did it they say stuff like
"My this boy/girl hasn't responded to any of my SMS" or " My parents are absolute arse holes they wouldn't let me do blah blah blah". It really annoys me and I tell them -I know a few- to grow up, look at other peoples problems -real problems- eg. people in the poorer countries of the world and get over it or take thier problems to someone who cares. I know this sounds harsh but sometimes you've just got to tell people you know? |

He was agreeing with you. Tom was right, i was... I would still rather workout then cut myself..... same relief you get...... Because at the rate of who does it, we could have alot of people with a washboard stomach then people looking like Edward Scissor Hands trying to scratch their arm. |

EMO is a type of music EMO ISNT people going around cutting themselves. Enlighten yourself, and see my post about stop discriminating in the Homos thread. i think the meaning of emo changes too fast. before 2003, emo was a kind of insult used to describe anyone you thought was a "stress head" or if your teacher exploded at you screaming about something really petty you'd say "she's such an emo". violent or depressed kids were labelled "emo" because of their attitude, and it was nothing to be proud of. nothing to do with fashion, music or myspace. 2004 and onwards, emo became a fashion label, also used to refer to pretty much any type of music ranging from pop to classical rock. i think this new "emo" cult is more posey and scene than suicidal or angry. just my opinion. |
