I see Google is coming out with an operating system this fall. And apparently it will be open source.
If it it's anything like their browser, call me interested. My guess is, at least at the beginning, it'll do a lot of things better (faster) than Windows, and probably a few things it won't do at all. Support for peripherals will probably be an issue. Probably it will be a good candidate for a dual boot with Windows. http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/07/08/google....e.os/index.html |

Just move to Linux now. Heh heh. I dunno, I'm at an age where convenience matters, somehow I don't think Linux will fit that bill. My hacking days are long over. But you never know. Maybe when I get a bigger hard drive I will have a multiple boot setup like I used to. |

Point taken, but everyone has their favorite flavor of Linux for various reasons. I't's been a while since I've been a propellerhead interested in computing for computing's sake, which is why you'll have to excuse me for not embracing "Linux", as I seriously doubt it will make my life easier. I'm into convenience and efficiency now, and so far Google seems to specialize in just that.

Chrome OS is synonymous with Pet Rocks of the 70's (there will be a rush because people are Lemmings and they are driven by fad(s) and then it'll just disappear, save for those dedicated on-looking googlers who will just hang on to it for the sake of their consciousness). Pet rocks, nowadays, which only very young take in and sooner or later abandon when they give up childish things; P.T. Barnum said it most eloquently: There's one born every minute.
I'm not demeaning it - but it is, as presented, an immature Developmental OS. There is an argument (in reasonability) for everything and the above is my brief, in finding(s), from reasonable life experience(s). To those that will use it: fine, to those that won't: fine. We are all uniquely different and Free Will Agency has created the world existing today, why change boats in mid-stream now? |

I won't comment on your remarks about lemmings and suckers, and on-looking googlers Anyways, i don't think it is intended as a be-all to end all, it'll be based around the internet, and knowing Google it'll be faster and more efficient, and probably more secure, than Microsoft for a lot of the things that a lot of people use computers for, which is research, video, and other internet related activities. But it won't have as broad a scope as windows. primarily they are initially targeting the netbook market. |

But it won't have as broad a scope as windows. primarily they are initially targeting the netbook market. One thing I have noticed in my line of work is that everything is going online. The new era of Internet is coming faster than anyone has expected. We are now expecting for the entire computer to be web based and are working towards making products for the web. One of our current project is to develop an online CAD software that is compatible with the windows based software released. At first I had a hard time believing that Google OS would be a success, now I change my mind and think that they are the company that will throw us in that direction even if they fail with their OS. I am not that great of a fan of Google products (I actually use other search engines from time to time), but I am in fact looking forward to this new OS. |

Yes I agree wholeheartedly, the Internet Viability Factor is moving faster than anyone ever anticipated and I have no doubt that the first Google OS release is going to be exploited (good and bad) beyond anyones wildest capability at the moment. The base structure is going to be almost near impossible to prevent abuse save getting a proverbial Drivers License to turn on your future computer. That's the scary thing about this Google Corporation - they are an intelligence gathering corporation and that is why I stay away from them as much as possible to the extent of my ability. I guess I'll just keep my feet in the cool water of the current creek and enjoy the environment and if it gets too bad, I'll move away. |
