Use an external ftp client like filezilla - will be much faster!

The limit for all mysql usernames and databases is 16 characters including the underscore _
Therefore thebestsiteever_forum Is way too long, because you can't even shorten it to 16 characters thebestsiteever_ is 16 characters in and of itself. Therefore your sitename needs to be shorter bestsiteever_bb would work because it's 15 characters. |

He's actually mentioned what username he's trying - the-lost-explore. There are 2 problems with this username.
First, it is not in the correct form for a database username on a zymic server - the correct form is sitename_randomstring. This makes me think that you have not set up a MySQL Database. Secondly, the-lost-explore is 16 characters long, which means that by the time you've got the-lost-explore_, you're on 17 characters, which is too long. I suggest you create another site, e.g thelostexplore.vndv.com. You can keep your previous site, but must set up your databases on your new site - it is possible to link between them like that. Use a database name like thelostexplore_d and a username like thelostexplore_u. swordz |

I have one, it took half an hour just for all the phpbb files. How do you do that linking thing you said you can do with the database.

You have to set up a different hosting account, eg thelostexplore.vndv.com, and then set up a db ect on that account. Then simply use the connection settings for that account, even if the files are on the-lost-explore.vndv.com

when I try and install Vbulletin this is the error that follows;
Warning: chdir() [function.chdir]: SAFE MODE Restriction in effect. The script whose uid is 4925 is not allowed to access ./../ owned by uid 2003 in /www/uuuq.com/s/a/f/safe/htdocs/install/installcore.php on line 22 Warning: require_once() [function.require-once]: Unable to access ./install/init.php in /www/uuuq.com/s/a/f/safe/htdocs/install/installcore.php on line 25 Warning: require_once(./install/init.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /www/uuuq.com/s/a/f/safe/htdocs/install/installcore.php on line 25 Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required './install/init.php' (include_path='.:/usr/share/php') in /www/uuuq.com/s/a/f/safe/htdocs/install/installcore.php on line 25 Any help would be appreciated, What is the default path for our files on this server? (vbulletin requires the path in its config.php file ie. /public/users/myaccount/forum/) |

vbulletin is not allowed, it says so explicitly when you sign up. Your account will now be deleted.

I thought I saw that somewhere, but in the forum Tutorial it was listed as one of them SO I dont think deleting my account is fair but do what ya want, it's the software I've paid for and been using for over 5 years... BTW why is it not allowed? Its a very robust and nice package. Well I'm not here to create any troubles just was looking for an easy solution and this cerainly hasn't been it ...
Thanks anyway, xTerMn8R |

Thanks anyway, xTerMn8R VB isnt allowed because the majority of people that upload it use nulled copies of it and have not rightfully paid for it. Another minor issue with it is that it has a lot of files with it which clogs up the ftp server. |

Along with being overly resource intensive compared to other forum packages.

This topic wasn't started by an admin, but I would agree that it does confuse things. I've now removed vBulletin from the list in the first post, sorry for the misinformation.

NP swordz I still think what y'all are doing here is great for most folks and I give ya a big ^5 for that and I also agree that vB is a bit more complicated then some of the others. I found another site that looks pretty nice and no safe mode ands they provide every piece of info ya need for setting up vB so I guess ya really did me a favor. Anyway keep up the Great work guys...
