For me it is down majority of the time for the last two days. It will pop up for 5 minutes and it will vanish for hours

It does that. It will be fixed in a while, but they ARE switching servers sometime this month, so maybe they are getting ready.....

This explains why vndv is down as much as it is and explains that from the 12 to 14 of August they will be switching servers and many updates will soon follow.
Yes, it is currently in a read-only mode, explanation in the post above. If you can live it out for a week or so, it will really improve a lot.
