Today I created the site mmadmin.vndv.com and uploaded Joomla. I installed Joomla and then at the last step it asked me to get rid of all of its installation files, so i went back to the file hosting page and tried to delete them, but i was disallowed from doing so. The page just says "File x cannot be deleted." So then when I copy my site name from my admin page into the browser, it ends up with the 403 error like this http://www.vndv.com/403.php. Did i do something wrong, or am I not allowed to use Joomla with this host? Thanks.
Edit: I realized i could use my ftp manager to nerf the files i wasn't able to delete before, and now they're gone, but i still get the same 403 forbidden error when trying to access my site. |

well, the server is in read only, so you are not yet able to delete/upload/edit any files. as for the error, i believe you may have deleted the index.html page and there is no way for the browser to direct you to the site.
EDIT: hah my bad.. did jack post this on zIRC?! |

Server isn't in read-only mode, jack had to pause the transfer to do an fsck to delete phishing sites. Everything should be working right atm. But the transfer still isn't finished.

Ok, thanks. That may have been part of the problem but i did realize later that the whole thing was centered around the index.html file. Still though, why have a 403 forbidden access error instead of a 404 site not found? Confusing, confusing confusing...

EDIT: hah my bad.. did jack post this on zIRC?! Yea I was around when he was talking about it. Ok, thanks. That may have been part of the problem but i did realize later that the whole thing was centered around the index.html file. Still though, why have a 403 forbidden access error instead of a 404 site not found? Confusing, confusing confusing... The reason for a 403 instead of 404 is because sure, the index isn't found, but the 403 error is when you're trying to access any directory. It's basically to keep people from using the directory listing to share files. And to protect users from other people seeing inside their directories (which might lead to them finding something they should ever be able to see). Therefore 403 is better solution in my opinion. |
