I looked all over this forum and the phpbb forums for an answer, but found nothing I could understand or was relevant to my situation.
My problem is that members of my forum cannot upload or get offsite pictures to their profile avatars and they cannot get pictures using the [img] in their signatures. yet posting a picture using the [img] works just fine. I get "It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image." when uploading the image from the computer, it lets me open up the file I want to upload it from, but when i hit "ok" it does not fill in the file location, so it never uploads it. I set the file I want the avatars uploaded to to 777 using ftp, and still nothing. The PHPbb admin permissions for avatars and signature [img] bbcode are set to allow. So I am not sure what, or where the problem is. The file is writeable and the permissions are allowed. Im thinking it is the host, but I am not sure? Thanks for the help. |

I'm not sure as to why you and your members couldn't upload but I might be able to help with why your images wouldn't show. Is your forum located elsewhere, outside of Zymic? If so Zymic has a hotlink protection so people can't link to anything within Zymic. The only way is for images to show is to have the forum be hosted on Zymic. If not, well.. I hope others could help you cuz I don't know. Sorry.

its a Zymic forum on a clanteam.com server.
I cant seem to upload images to the server using the boards. Is it a permission issue somewhere? the folder is writable, its set to 777, the boards admin is set to allow. Other then those, I'm not sure if I need or am supposed to change something elsewhere. any ideas? Thanks |

As a workaround why don't you just get your users to upload them to image shack and link to them instead of uploading them. It will save on your bandwidth... I know it's not a proper solution, but it will work.

that doesn't work either. avatars and the IMG signatures don't work at all, which i thought might be a host issue, but I am changing my mind on that. doesnt work even if you call on image off site. Im starting to think its a phpbb3 bug. I dug a little farther, and [flash 1,1] bbcode works just fine in the signature. The error somehow has to do with the board not knowing how to check the [img] image size. Which causes it to get the "was not possible..." message. So far I have found several work arounds, but no real solution. either you enable "url_fopen" and set max dimensions to 0X0, which is dangerous because someone will probably use a huge image that will eat bandwidth alive. or use flash in the siganture, avatar gets shafted though, because it doesn't do flash. Theres never a happy medium with phpbb.:
Thanks ...digs some more. |

Not a bug with phpbb but a server issue. Get a paid host to make it work. What do you mind your bandwidth at a free host for anyway? You must get a very busy forum to eat up much bandwidth. If you really get one that busy add Google Adword and become rich. Paying a little from that income to a classy host and a professional programmer shouldn't be a problem at all.

I was told by some friends that this is usually because of the host disabling the allow_url_fopen function in the php.ini
