Blog Help. Please!

Hi.

I want to start a blog site but am not sure how it works or what software will i need. If i install Wordpress, would my forum members be able to sign up withing my site or do they have to create a blog at wordpress.com?

Generally blogs do not have a sign in function - you put stuff up, anyone can read it.

You can have a sign in function in which you can only allow certain objects to be viewed by members but all the members of your forum would have to sign up again.

I'll try to be more specific.

let's say this is my forum, > http://mywebsite.com/forum< , and I want to install a blogging software, i.e. wordpress, the url will change to http://mywebsite.com/wordpress(blog). So when they go to that site, they will not be able to sign up ? so they must have to sign up for a blog account @ blogger.com, etc ?

Are you deleting your forum? Or having a blog as well?

No, I am not deleting the forum. I am planning on having both. What I am not really sure about is if my forum members can sign up for a blog withing my website. for instance, if a user wants to sign up for a blog, could it be http://mywebsite.com/blog/MEMBER ? < just an example.

I finally understand what you're trying to do. But I don't know the answer. I suspect it might be possible, but will take all kinds of mods to keep the different accounts separate.

Unless, you provide hosting for your blogs, then the members will have to have there own somewhere else.

With wordpress, your visitors can register for a membership to your blog. Go to Settings and look for Membership. Check it for "Anyone can register" All new registers would automatically be placed in the Subscriber group, the group whose members can only read the public and private posts in your blog. You can determine which one of your members can add posts or edit posts in your blog by promoting him/her to the Contributor, Author, or to the Editor position. Unfortunately, the members of your forum would have to sign up again or register again with your blog. As far as I know, there is no bridge plugin that would integrate your phpbb or invision or whatever forum, with your blog. All I know is you can use this instead for your forum. It integrates with wordpress. Even if one has a wordpress.com account, he/she still has to register with yours.

If you want your members of your blog to have a separate blog of their own, you can use MU Wordpress but I think there are some functions that you need to enable before you can install MU Wordpress in Zymic. I'm not sure. I can't remember ever trying to install that in Zymic.

I am not sure if this is going to work on Zymic, but if you are using wordpress, you can integrate BBPress(forum) to wordpress(blog) so that users don't have to register 2 times.

Guys he's not trying to have users be able to login once and only one.

As swords finally realized, he's trying to basically run a blog hosting service. Let his members have blogs hosted on his account.

As for this happening, as swordz said, it's possible, but you would probably have to personally modify the script to allow something like this. I don't know how it'd be done.

I see. He can use MU Wordpress for that purpose (letting a webmaster's visitors have their own weblog). I tried it once but it was so difficult to manage (for me, at least) that I didn't want to bother with it anymore.
