Hi everyone!
I have managed to install wordpress on my site qlczas.zzl.org and publish one post etc. I am using net2ftp to upload files. But I can't install new wordpress themes/plugins (I get "An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with WordPress.org or this server’s configuration. If you continue to have problems, please try the support forums.") And also I cannot upload any files through wordpress (I have made permissions of 777 on wp-content/photos - directory). I have of course changed in wordpress the media catalog from uploads to photos. It's just like there's something wrong with the hosting server? Because I am using online ftp client I had to change my country to Germany, But I'am from Poland, so maybe that is the issue? I try to change it back to poland, but I don't think it's the issue. |

Qlczas that's because Zymic does not allow outside connections to your website. Simply download the file from WordPress's website (or wherever you want) unzip the file and upload it via FTP to wp-content/themes directory.

Okay i'm using the latest version and i'm pretty sure i'm doing everything right but i get this error: CODE Error establishing a database connection This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host's database server is down. Are you sure you have the correct username and password? Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname? Are you sure that the database server is running? If you're unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums. Try Again I set the database name as the correct database name username as the correct username password as the correct password host as localhost (because in control panel it says the mysql host is "localhost") i even tried to make the manual database connection wp-config.php and i got the same error. whats wrong? edit: fixed. i just deleted the user and created like 3 more and it finally worked. that was weird Yeah, that's weird. I had the exact same issue. I created a new user and then it worked. I just signed up, so I'm not ready to volunteer yet, but... Since Wordpress is now (as of this writing) up to version 3.5.1 and there's significant differences between what the OP ("original poster") posted back in 2010, maybe some of the mods/admins here can find someone who will 'own' this article and update the first/primary post as needed. For example, "delete the index.html file" was posted multiple times as a fix, but only after getting 5-6 pages deep in this thread. The first post should be edited to reflect this. And the fix for my problem was to create a new user since the originally created db user account wasn't working as expected. (Thanks to Jeremy Reed who posted that fix!) That could also be noted in the first or second post. Just some friendly tips from a person who's a forum admin on a very large website. |

Just an FYI to anyone interested:
I cleaned out three years of old inert site stuff from my .99k site, shoved it all in a subdirectory, deleted old databases, made a WP database and user, uploaded the WordPress 3.5.1 files, and went to my site's home page (_mysite_.99k.org). It threw up an error page saying there wasn't a config file, and had a button with which to create one. I pressed it, entered the requested database information, clicked through, and everything (save for the mail() function, which Zymic has locked down initially) went perfectly and installed without a lick of trouble. Again, this was the newest (as of this post) version - 3.5.1 I'm in the process of learning WordPress, so I decided to use this as my own blog/website/experimenter's/learner's haven, eventually producing a good site (I hope!) I'll be cataloging my progress on the site as I learn new things and stumble across roadblocks. |
