some logos just revolve around the primary theme of the business, one may see that the logo may go
with or without an image. The focus may be to bring more exposure to the business. While the
intention of using an image is to bring more clarity and memorability that can stay long in the
memory.

Very true....Images can strike into the mind very quickly whereas, text is not that easy to remember. Its always good to use some kind of image related to your business themes which is unique and outstanding.

When I do logo design for a client there are a few things that are always done.

- Start in illustrator, this will allow you to scale the graphic from 1x1 to 100 feet square with zero distortion.
- Save off samples of the file for the client to preview on white, black and 50% grey backgrounds, in a much lower resolution (you'd be surprised how often people try to steal things) and potentially with a watermark if needed.
- When creating the logo, do it both with and without the txt that may or may be required.
- Create a few very unique and interesting out of the box designs for the client to see even if that isnt what they asked for, something new, fresh and different might not have crossed there name, this could simply be a slight change in color to a cut out of there font in the logo rather than as seperate text.
- Offer them the logo, the logo with name in multiple sizes as well as grey scale, as some industries still use fax machines and like to maintain there presentation across a shit platform of communication.
- When packaging there selection out to them, I personally send 3 different sizes of .jpg as well as one much higher res .tiff, and of course a .gif or 2 (depending on what uses they need for the web).

This might seem like a lot, but all in all it takes very little extra time once you make this your general route of handling clients, be it for web design, logo, photo retouch, or any graphical business really.

some interesting post here
While we spend a lot of time on software development (MageBridge, Magento, Joomla!), we always try to get some extra time to study new technologies - and see how we can adept them again in our development. Last months, our design guru Hans was busy with CSS3 and also came up with our Yireo logo ... without images

About logos the most important and best thing is that it should reflect the firm/society or what it's the logo of. However, according business should not have images i feel rather designing some image will be a good idea.

I prefer logos with image's because images strike faster than the text. Particularly coming to images they bring beauty to the whole web page where text can't do that. For a particular text to make impress we need to use various fonts with various styles where it is not necessary for the images.

In most cases you should implement some sort of imagery with your logo. Even if it is just text there is a lot of thinking and planning that should go into the typography of it. An image helps build your brand, it speaks about your company and what it’s goal is, so every aspect of it is vital to your business’ well being.

QUOTE(rosyolivia @ Mar 3 2010, 12:32 AM) *
... using an image is to bring more clarity and memorability that can stay long in the
memory.

I feel the importance of "Imagery with/without text" versus "Textual alone" concept of a logo is weighted more towards the "Imagery with/without text" end whereas the "Textual alone" aspect of a logo is easily forgotten (and thus any prospective future business may be lost as a result of the forgetting a worded logo of a Business).
I back my claim up in the knowledge and understanding that (now think about this for a moment)
People tend to recollect memories in picture(s) and/or emotion(s) - not words

for example when I write (or, speak) the word; TWO, in presentation here to you the reader did you - to understand in conveyance what "TWO" is recalling from memory of your mind - see the word TWO appear as text in your mind or did you see the graphic (picture/image) of " 2 " (or see a graphic representation of two apples, two oranges, two kittens, etc., etc..) in your mind.
Images can invoke stronger emotion(s) within people ... One picture is worth a thousand words whereas words, proverbially, go in the eyes and never really make it to the brain - (when was the last time you memorized words).

We sometimes really overlook the obvious by trying to impress others with our sophiticated expertise. Remember to KISS everything. KISS being the acronym for Keep It Simple Stupid (No offense to anyone by that. KISS, KISS to everyone from ZPCS).

The imagery part to an effective memorially capacitive logo, is in it's presentation to being asthetic to relational meaning for recollection of the Business (which is usually a name), is the hard part. KISS KISS!
