I've come up with a really neat idea for a computer game for kids. I'm going to use Blender 3D for the levels and then map plain colors onto the surfaces. This is because I want to create a cartoon effect! I was wondering if anyone had any input on the Blender 3D experiment? Commets Please!

Well, I'm not sure if simply mapping plain colours on surfaces would actually result in a cartoon look. If you're familiar with the latest releases of Blender [I'm not
I think blender does include such a shader. For more details, I think you should look here. The page shows you how to achieve that 'cartoony' look. |

I'm going to have to look into that 3d blender. Dont know much about it, at the moment. I noticed it has good light type reflections (water, chrome & gold metal type reflections). It sure beats that old gray shiny look.
What do you mean by 2d frames. What game type is that.... is it First person point of view....is it 2 dimensions, is it the 3d image textures, or what. I havent heard of the 2d frame concept be4, not much of a gamer. It sounds like ya, have some pretty good image editors to use. I used the gimp image editor before, thats a real good editor for free. Are you making this game a standalone or a web driven one. I've been working on a game for years. I have to say, I dont work on it much, cuz I get irritated because, It was 3d, and it ran real real slow, I wasnt that good at managing the overall program, so i switch the game to 2d, and then got tired of it. Plus its not really a nice game. Whenever I did game, I always looked for cheap tools too use, Like the gimp image, truespace 3.2 3-d modeler...etc.. I didnt want to spend a few hundred dollars on something, I wasnt going to use much... I'm goin' to check into that 3d blender oneday. |

The game is going to be a kids educational game.(But who knows...I'm really hard to motovate to do these things!) Its going to be in first person and 3D. This is because its easier for me to animate in full 3D than 2D. I've been using Blender for two years now and I think I'm pretty comforable with it! Here is a link on the Blender plain mapping thing.Link Also if you were going to make a 3D game use blender for the 3d models(It free). And maybe Dim 3 for the engine(Free, but for mac only) |

I've tried that 3D Blender, and I say, no way... It seems like its alright with what it can do, but I find it not to be that user friendly to me. Or i'm just not into learning or motivated into figuring whats what, I usually play around with dark basic classic, I know that pretty well. But the only thing with that its not free unlike 3d blender. I usually create my models with truspace or gamespace model editors, I want to get the professional version of DB, because it has features of chrome models then gray models, I'd perfer my wire wheels be chrome like than gray.
I'll get back into 3d blender another time, I'm just alittle swamped at the moment |
