My forum is fully uploaded and I can access it by going to /phpBB3/index.php.

I have added my own domain, but it goes to my main directory which gives me an error that I don't have the permission to access it. Can anyone please tell me how to make my domain go to the /phpBB3/index.php?

If you want help you have to give us your site's address.

You must have installed the forum into a folder instead of the root directory, probably: yoursite.vndv.com/phpbb3

PHPBB3.0 problem with install

What do i need to do?

Files and Directories

Required - In order to function correctly phpBB needs to be able to access or write to certain files or directories. If you see “Not Found” you need to create the relevant file or directory. If you see “Unwritable” you need to change the permissions on the file or directory to allow phpBB to write to it. Where can i do that??

cache/:
Found, Unwritable

files/:
Found, Unwritable

store/:
Found, Unwritable

Optional files and directories

Optional - These files, directories or permission settings are not required. The installation system will attempt to use various techniques to create them if they do not exist or cannot be written to. However, the presence of these will speed installation.

config.php:
Found, Unwritable

images/avatars/upload/:
Found, Unwritable

Jdb19: Safe mode cannot be turned off but if you read it says it is optional anyway, it is only required off for certain features for offsite avatar hosting so you can run phpbb3 fine without it off.

Apart from that you both have the same problem - file permissions.

If you are using FTP then right-click the given files and set the permissions to writeable by all.
If you are using the file manager than edit permission and tick all the boxes like Red-Spiral said.

QUOTE(philipkavanagh @ Feb 10 2008, 08:02 PM) *
Step1.Go into MYSQL managment and create, new database, and new user.
Step2. Find the files you uploaded belonging to phpbb, and you should find settings.php, open it with the editor
Step3. Put in your databse name and user name along with your password you just created in MYSQL.
Step4. Put in your URL ie: http://mysite.zxq.net/forum/install.php
Step5. Fill in the same information DB, ussername, password, and hopefully you should be on your way!.
Anyway hope this helps

where do I find the setting.php file I look in the DIR/foder that has all the files for PHPBB but I don't see the setting.php
and when I opne the zip file on my computer I don't see a setting.php file

I download PHPBB 3

PS:
I only look in the folder root (where the PHPBB files are not the Web site root)

PSS:
when I start the install and I get to the database settings page

I get the following error:

for mysql type

Test connection:

Could not connect to the database, see error message below.
Access denied for user 'databaseuser'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

NOTE:
that I had change the database user name only for this forum or post only
so I do not use databaseuser or I should say that user I did not make it I used another username but that listed here

and settings used are:
Database server hostname or DSN: localhost
Database name: hostname_forum
database username: mydatabase name
database Password: mydatabase password
Prefix for tables in database: phpbb_

NOTE:
that the data base name and username are not the some and their is no database name or username or password with the name phpbb_

I hope some one can help me out thanks

PS NOTE:
I do see a config.php file

can any also tell me how to upload or add an attachment to this forum or how to post one thanks

There's not supposed to be a database with the name phpbb_

That's just the prefix for the tables when the installation is complete. Did your download come with instructions on how to install it? If it did, you might want to look at it - that's how I installed my forum, but I'm not using phpBB.

Make sure that the user that you created for the forum has access to the database that the forum will be using or else it won't work.

But I'm not the best person to come to for help when it comes to this kind of stuff.

The only forum that I've successfully installed manually is XMB. Sorry.
