I had the same problem. Got it working by... Setting the permissions manually on these files and folders: attachments avatars Packages Packages/installed.list Smileys Themes agreement.txt Settings.php Settings_bak.php and in the database control panel: I deleted the username I had made and put in a new one the same as the database name. |

Open up the Packages folder in your ftp client and change the permissions on the installed.list file
More info, you can use the help documents at the SMF site |

Some people here seem to be having a bit trouble installing SMF,]. Well I'm here to help. Finally run "install.php" by doing yourname.zzl.org/wherever_you_copied_files/install.php and follow the steps! This should be pretty easy! After all this, delete the install.php and go to your forums and do whatever you want. Thanks , Swintell If you have any questions please post here and I'll try to help the best that I can. i have done all those things and when i go to delete install.php in file manager i get: File "install.php" can't be deleted i have tried renaming and deleted entire contents of install.php file but i still can't remove normally i would not care but when i log into my forum i get this message: MAJOR SECURITY RISK: You have not removed install.php! help please. i'm going grey and |

just rename it. and if it doesnt let you on the file manager rename it through your ftp client. deleting it will cause you to have to re-upload in install directory if you need to reinstall smf in the future.

have tried renaming and i get the following:
Error renaming file as i stated in previous post. its the warning i get in my forum thats of concern to me. not the file. i will see if there is a patch on the smf forum that might remove the warning from my forum. thanks for the suggestions. edit: i just tried deleting install.php using my ftp client it was successful thanks wozzym for the "workaround" solution (i feel the color returning to my hair). lol |

@SwintellSoft: Good guide!!! I just think it needs a tad more depth.
If you guys want, I have alot of years experience with MySQL and PHP (including a lot of the forum systems out there) and I will put all this into a PDF file for you's to read and it will have all about file permissions and using SMF. Post your replies and whether you would like it. It could become an offical ZCP document if the Administrators would like to. Jacob. |
