Mine is SnartFTP but it doesnt connect, it says Login autheticatio failed....
But I entered the password and username and the site correctly, I even copyed pasted it from my message.....

I assume that you mean SmartFTP - I am using that to and it connects to a friends site well but trying to go
to mine I get the following.
[01:59:28] SmartFTP v2.5.1008.27
[01:59:28] Resolving host name "barrysworkshop.zxq.net"
[01:59:28] Connecting to 74.86.20.181 Port: 21
[01:59:28] Connected to barrysworkshop.zxq.net.
[01:59:29] An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine.
[01:59:29] Cannot login waiting to retry (30s)...
[01:59:29] Server closed connection

I read that to mean the host machine is breaking the connection. I am using port 21. Any ideas?
I seem to get that consistently even when I try variations of site and name (barrysworkshop.zxq.net
and barrysworkshop@zxq.net)

For anyone having actual problems with SmartFTP, they do offer a knowledge base for support

QUOTE(Jack @ Sep 18 2007, 07:46 PM) *
With each free web hosting account, you will have access to FTP. FTP stands for "File Transfer Protocol" and is the best choice to use for managing your websites files.

To begin with you will need an FTP client, I use FlashFXP, however you may download Filezilla which is free (open-source) and easy to use:
http://filezilla-project.org/

Once downloaded, install and open FileZilla. Here is what it looks like:

In order to connect to FTP, you will need the following information (also included in your registration email):
  • Your website address (e.g. jcator.zxq.net - without any www. or http)
  • Username (This is slightly different for FTP, it is your username plus an "@" sign, so: jcator@zxq.net)
  • Password
Now simply enter in your details into the top connection panel, followed by entering in port 21 like so:

And then hit "Quick Connect", if you have entered in your details correctly, you should be connected.

Now simply upload files from your hard-drive to FTP. To do so use the left panels to browse through your files, for example I want to upload test.txt which is located on my desktop. I right clicked it and selected "Upload"

The file will now be uploaded to your site, e.g. jcator.zxq.net/test.txt

You may also create new folders, to do so simply right click in the right panel like so:

You can also change file permissions by right clicking and selecting "File Attributes".

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

You need to use the password you supplied when signing up, disregard the one in the email.

My FTP client isn't working. I usually use FlashFXP, but it didn't work, so I tried FileZilla, which didn't work either. I have recovered my password once, which might of messed it up, but I did try both passwords. Please help!

EDIT: I also tried to use the password I signed up with and still couldn't connect.

Hello, This is Mike. I am trying to use Dream weaver's built in FTP to manage my site but for some reason it either can't find the server, or when it does it tells me that I have a wrong user name and password combination. Could you pleas give me any ideas.

Hello. I don't have a problem logging in or anything, it's just after about 20 seconds of not clicking on a folder on the remote host, it auto-disconnects me. Files quened will still upload, but after that's done, I have to exit FileZilla and open it back up again. I changed filezilla's settings to not auto-disconnect, but is it the server settings and can I change that?

Thanks!

1. Open CuteFTP, and a box will appear.
2. at host name type your host (e.g myhost.zxq.net)
3. in your username password type your username (myhost@zxq.net) then your password

It is set very low so everyone gets a fair chance of getting a slot on the server, so no idling, you can just reconnect once it's disconnected though.

I must be missing something. I'm using FileZilla and can't get your directions to work.
What I read is that I should enter my account name: marklap.hosting.zymic.com
then enter my username (marklap) with an @ sign and the rest of the site name: marklap@marklap.hosting.zymic.com
Then my password.

This doesn't work. My account name doesn't match the model. I've tried simplifying as marklap@zymic.com and marklap@hosting.zymic.com

Nothing works. Can you clarify?
