well the only thing i can think of is either it was a corrupted download, or there is a joomla within the /joomla. but try going into your file manager, into joomla, into install, and click on the index file and see if it runs.

I uploaded all joomla files, then I tried to get into the homepage. Joomla started with a message to cancel my installation directory for security reasons. I did it but I soon realized that I had done no installation!!!
uploaded the installation directory again.
Created my database (amongst one thousand of 503 errors!), then the user for the mySQL database and assigned privileges.

If I understood correctly at this point I was supposed to go into the "mysite.vndv.com" to start installation (after having chmoded) but:

"Database Error: Unable to connect to the database:Could not connect to MySQL"

What am I supposed to do?

I realized that the "installation" directory had not been copied completely. Now I did transfer it again on the server but I get again the page that states that I have to erase it. Once again I have not done any installation on Joomla. Any suggestion?

Did you delete the "index.html" inside your account?

Hello.

I'm new to Joomla! and have been having alot of trouble with the installation.

I downloaded Joomla!, uploaded it to my website via FTP.

After 2 hours, the upload finished. I went through the install, following the directions given on this forum. When I get to the MySQL database configuration, I put in all the information, the way it's telling me to, I think?! :s

Here's what I entered:

Database Type: mysql

Host Name: localhost

Username: sheumascampbellphotography_admin

Password: (password)

Database Name: sheumascampbellphotography_joom

After I enter that, I get a screen that says this:

Error
An error has occurred.:

Could not connect to the database. Connector returned number: Unable to connect to the database:Could not connect to MySQL

Please help!!!

Your user and database name can only be 16 characters long. Obviously your is much longer!

The solution is to make another hosting site with a much shorter name, and create your database on that site. Then, log into that database from your main site.

Not sure about it

Chmoding
Joomla chmods itself automaticly. But on Zymic you need to do it manually. After the upload is complete open the directory with your FTP Client and find configuration.php-dist.Rename it to configuration.php.Then right click on it.Choose "File Attributes",and change the "Numeric Value" to 777.Press ok.You are done chmoding.
Thanks to chengzhi-jw for sharing this issue.

had isuses until i didnt return the values to configuration.php-dist and numeric value at 644 then all worked just fine, so seem chmoding not needed at least at joomla 1.5+ versions

I did upload joomla with no problem, but when I opened my website and went to its subdirectory, It tells me

"PLEASE REMEMBER TO COMPLETELY
REMOVE THE INSTALLATION DIRECTORY.
You will not be able to proceed beyond this point until the installation directory has been removed. This is a security feature of Joomla!."

I didn't even install this software, and it tells me to delete the installtion folder. So I did delete it. But i got an error. I think it is because I didn't install it. Could someone help me please

EDIT: I found the problem.

First I had to rename the configuration.php to something else(for example: 1configuration.php).
Then I got to the Installation webpage.
There it said that the configuration.php was important, so I renamed the 1configuration.php back to configuration.php and pressed refresh.
Then it worked....xD

You can't extract zipped files when they are uploaded - extract on your computer, then upload.

This tutorial has been a big help.

However I still managed to run into a roadblock of course.

I did all the steps up to install sample with no problems, however when I go to install sample Joombla gives me an error message saying,
"Error: the XML response that was returned from the server is invalid."

Any ideas as to what this could possibly be caused by or how to fix it?

Thanks again.

First at all i want to thank for this tutorial, it was an usefull resource. I donīt know if anyone noticed this issue, but if you are using filezilla you will have to configure your site's transfer preferences to limit simultaneos connections to 2, otherwise uuq.com ftp server will reject all incoming transfers.

Hi!
I have a problem installing joomla...
I`ve uploaded the files, and the language selection appears, when I click next it says:

An error has occurred.:Cookies do not appear to be enabled on your browser client. You will not be able to install the application with this feature disabled. Alternatively, there could also be a problem with the server's session.save_path. If this is the case, please consult your hosting provider if you don't know how to check or fix this yourself.

The cookies ARE ENABLED, i tried renaming the connfiguration.php-dist to configuration.php, and changing the numeric value to 777, but then it just gives me the message to delete the installation directory. I can`t even choose the language of installation...

HELP PLEASE!!!
