While I'm still working on my main site. My friend and I have decided to create another site for a video podcast. I was hoping someone could create the logo for it biggrin.gif. it would basiclly be a burnt/cracked computer being zapped by lightning. And the site name would be ZapTV or zapTV or Zap Tv or Zap TV whatever looks better. biggrin.gif

Yo Bill smile.gif ! How you doing? About this logo -- I don't wish to monopolise this graphics business here smile.gif . So let's give the folks at zymic an opportunity to do it this time, huh? I'm quite certain they'll do a very cool job... If you look around, you'll see that there's no dearth of talent here...

I think Bill wants a static logo, not an animated one, BCC. And welcome back... hope your computer's feeling better smile.gif ...

Yo Bill smile.gif , I had intentions of doing a Pink Floyd-type surreal wallpaper/poster with a TV in it.

Your post reminded me of this concept and helped me develop it further. I did it today. It's called "God hates TV" [no offence to anyone wink.gif] and it looks something like this [this is a rough/first draft version of the concept]:

So dude, you have my thanks smile.gif . By the way, "God Hates TV" sounds like a band name, doesn't it wink.gif ? Although I don't know if a band with such a name would get much TV coverage, eh wink.gif ?

Well, if you think this image can be modified in any way to suit your need, let me know, okay? But keep in mind that this is a 3D render and not a vector drawing... I can replace the old-fashioned TV model with a computer monitor.

Cheers!

As I wrote above, this is 3D render, not a vector drawing. So make sure it is suitable for what you have in mind, okay? smile.gif

It would be great if it was a computer smile.gif. Also i don't think I'd be able to incorporate my site name without messing up the photo since i Don't have original. Thanks again!

@ Bill: Buddy, see if this is okay:

This is a PNG image [with transparency]. Like the Mister Cracker pics, you can copy-paste this over any background you choose.

And this is just the graphic [again, a PNG transparency] which you can use with/over your own text.

@ BigBCC: That's okay smile.gif -- we were all noobs once [still are, in some area or another!]. Keep doing Blender smile.gif .

Cheers smile.gif !

It's Cinema 4D [C4D] and a lot of folks at zymic use it. I think the interface is similar to that of Max, although I haven't seen it in detail or fully -- I noticed the similarity when I saw the screenshots from the C4D tutorials @ Zymic...

hate to hijack the thread, but I just wanted to say, I took 3 years of engineering in highschool, and we used 3d studio max alot in that class. Sadly I never really put any work into it, so my 3d skills are very much lacking, but I can follow tutorials, and mess around and make some pretty crappy stuff. But at least it looks like it's supposed to. But my point is, after learning 3dsmax I wasn't able to even use any of the other 3d programs, like maya, cinema4d, lightwave, bryce. They all felt akward to me. So I think it's all personal preference, as to what you start on and get used to. All I can say is try them all out if you can!

And to get back on topic, I really Like the image you made, though for me personally I think it's kind of huge for a logo. But thats just my opinion.

@ bill & trippin: Thank you for raising this point. I make them big so that the user can later scale them down to a smaller size as per his/her needs smile.gif . This was also why the mister cracker images were large in size.

As you know, if you do the reverse -- scale a smaller image up, it suffers from the 'resolution loss syndrome' and looks pixelated, particularly when it's a bitmap [like jpg, gif, png] and not size-independant vector artwork.

Read more about this issue here.

Maybe a user would need a larger version of his/her logo sometime and if it were small to begin with, enlarging it [like I mentioned above] will not produce an acceptable copy... smile.gif Particularly in Bill's case, since he usually doesn't specify the size, I assume that he intends to use it in several sizes or try various sizes before he chooses one.

Cheers!

By the way Bill, here's a second version of the logo that's more 'horizontal' wink.gif . As usual, it's a PNG image [with transparency].

Thanks Valency and Paradoks, for your appreciation. Learning 3D is a bit like this joke I once heard:

QUOTE
A tourist in London looks around and asks a violinist who's passing by: "Excuse me, but how do you get to Albert Hall?"

The violinist looks back at him and says, "With practice..."

smile.gif

Plus there are many books and tutorial sites that'll explain what each and every element of a 3D app's UI does. Go through these carefully, and try them out on your computer as you read. Look around for simple everyday objects that you can model. And practise a lot. That's all that I can say -- since I did those things myself smile.gif ... Best of luck!
