Hey all,
I would like to make it possible so that my domain (NascentDescent.com) would allow me to have an email adress like k.digennaro@nascentdescent.com. Ive never done this before so im not really sure how to, and does it cost money? My domains through go daddy.

Thanks,
Kevin

all mail functions are turned off for our server, You might be able to get google apps working with your domain but it's definitely not a guaranteed thing, I don't know if anyone has been able to (i've heard of it happening in the future).

Depending on how you manage your domain you might be able to find a free mail server, or set one up yourself on your home computer, but if you did that you'd have to make sure you're computer NEVER went off or you'd miss out on emails.

hmmmmm so from what im understanding zymic does not allow you to create an email server on ther server? simiular to how they dont let you upload mp3s, you have to host off site? so in theory i could just host the server somewhere else?

I honestly know nothing about how this works so im trying to under stand it. I looked on godaddy and they have email adresses for sale, rather cheap than what i expected to pay. Im assuming these are without the server heres the link https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/smallbiz.asp?ci=9021 scroll down to 'email users'. How does this work? say i purchased web adresses, then what would i do? would that not work on zymic?

If this isnt possibly on zymic, basically what im trying to do is get a different email. I get fuse through cincy bell, and am not happy with the email service, it doesnt allow me to send to verzion customers etc, its a problem because a lot of my freinds/co-workers are verizion customers and email is a big part of how we stay connected. I have plenty of gmail accounts etc. but i want to get what i would call a 'business' account. Purchasing a package such on godaddy would allow me to have my adress end with @nascentdescent.com, which is my band name, where not a huge band or anything but this would make things simpler.

Any ideas/suggestions/or general email on how this works would be apreciated!

Thanks,
Kevin DiGennaro

On Dot.tk (A free URL redirection site) you get unlimited email accounts for free for your domain Its email forwarding
Andrew
Just so you know, if you BUY a hosting plan you almost always get email accounts with the hosting plan. It's just that Zymic has all the email services disabled because it would cause alot of abuse (yes just like how they don't allow mp3). So in essence you could just buy a hosting plan that would include no limitation on file types get your email etc.

Or you could alternatively look into Google Apps, but I don't know how well it will work with Zymic hosting, since i'm not sure if anyone has signed up for it. http://www.google.com/a/help/intl/en/admins/editions.html You're basically getting everything you get when you register for a google account (like an @gmail.com email address and access to google calendar and more) but you use YOUR domain name, so you'd really be using gmail's interface but mail would be sent and received from nascentdescent.com or whatever your domain is.

And lastly you could just sign up for a gmail account say nascentdescent@gmail.com or something similar. It's not the most attractive way, but I love gmail... web based access for when your not home, pop3 and IMAP support if that's what you want to check your mail with.

And to reply to ShinigamiRealm's suggestion, .tk domains are okay but they aren't very professional. They are pretty much known throughout the web as the "free domain" so it's really up to you. I personally think whatever@gmail.com looks better than having .tk ... especially since DOTtk has so many problems with people being able to access their services... half the .tk domains people have posted I can't even access, so i wouldn't want to be using them as an email forwarding services.

With mine, I have a cPanel account where I can manage all this sort of thing. Google for "free cpanel hosting" and see what comes up.
Mine is a more extensive paid version of what you seek.

so if i were to buy a hosting plan would i basically be set to go? I wouldnt have to set up a server etc or spend any more money?
Andrew
Exactly, you just find a good cheap host, and they normally come with cPanel which allows you to make email addresses and subdomains with your domain. It's really quite easy and amazing.

i checked out that google aps, honestly im not a fan it was really confusing to me lol, has anyone used godaddy's email hosting package? im curious how it works before i spend the money. Also the thing about good aps that i didnt like was actually a pretty cool feature, you have the ability to make your interface how ever you want it, although most people probally look at that as a plus, for me it was just more work. I simply need email, i already have a webpage in progess I dont want to have to build another one for my email.

Keven I'm assuming that you can setup your own layout for it "If you want" otherwise you would just use gmails default style. It's probably more for web sites that want to give an email to a bunch of team members, or maybe a guild with all their own emails, and the web site owner wants the email to integrate nicely. If its just for you (or a couple other people) and you really don't care, then I wouldn't worry about it.

I personally love gmails layout and functionality

As for good hosts, there are two topics comparing paid hosts going on in the forum right now, you could look through those, or do your own research. I know that Jetteh22 (formerly known as Creactive) raised a good point in those topics, Just find a host that looks like they are in your price range and google them for reviews. Find some bad reviews that make you weary, Move on to the next host.
