Zymic Webmaster Forums > Web Design & Development > Client Side Scripting > HTML and CSS

Hi,

I use a template from Zymic, which has a Search Box included! But I just can't get it to work.
Can anyone help me out with this?

I don't wanna use Google on my Searchbox, just be able to search through all my Websites.

Well to use a search box you need to have it search somewhere, for example a Database. Inside the database you will have stored some data like posts... names... contents or what ever... and with the search box you will search inside this database.

Questions ? you have some sort of database like stored information ? Or is it plan HTMl pages (i see it is :/) so basically it is impossible.

For your site i suggest using a Wordpress like blog... so you can insert data in it... you'll have to add the template of course which will need HTML editing... (you have a control panel to add posts and such) and it comes with a search box that searches inside your database.

If the design you are using is from zymic you should have copyright on the bottom.. which appears that it has been removed ? I dunno biggrin.gif

Well thank for telling me a bit about this. I will see if I can set this up, my domain provider is 1and1
they have great features...I mine get this to work.

To the copyright, I paid for the removal...so I can put my own on the bottom.

good,

as for 1and1 i am also with them, i got a hosting account and 8 domains with them biggrin.gif they are great, only problem is with databases :/

Well enough about your host.
To allow a search feature to actually work, you need to include PHP or have a CMS backing it. HTML just won't cut it.

With a CMS it is a lready setup for you. A CMS would be something like PHPNuke, post nuke, etc. They are programmed in PHP. As for programming it in PHP it would take something alone the lines of searching a DB, which is the same way it works in a CMS.
MrTouz
For your site (kind of small website) i would suggest Wordpress so you can add content to your site or have people register and do it for you... nice commenting system for your content and lots of other features you can download at the wordpress.org website.

It has a search feature included so its fine. Its kind of small (not like PhpNuke) or phpbb portal which were made for BIG communities where you can manage thousands of differentt ype of content... users... (really not needed for your site)

If you search around you will find many other websites that offers different types of CMS, i would suggest going for a CMS where there is a big community behind (proves it is developped and you can get help)

Good Luck. (oh and yea, last part will be including your template into the CMS that is why i suggest you to choose carefully for your CMS.
