Full Version: Editing Cgi With Vista?

Ok so I have 2 comps, one with vista and the other with XP.

I use DevPHP to edit websites on both computers, but when I edit it on the Vista comp and upload it with FlashFXP on my site, it creates compatibility issues and will not work. When I use the same exact program, with the same exact content edited, on the Windows XP comp, it works fine.

Any ideas why? dry.gif

Check the character encoding is the same.

What are the incompatibility issues?

it just refuses to show anything..

Well, that's odd. It should work either way. Make one on the XP system, upload it somewhere and download it on a Vista system and see what happens.

doing anything that's not media based with vista is dumb

vista is ONLY a media OS

I hate hearing people's crap about Vista. The only media I have on vista is my music played through Winamp, and my videos played through VLC.
Everything else is web related, like Firefox, Photoshop, RapidPHP (code editor), I have apache SQL and PHP setup so I can test stuff without uploading. And my Vista machine runs fine! I even have a couple games on it. But I've not had any problems (except with aim, but that's because AOL is evil)

And as for the cgi error, I would think DevPHP isn't saving it in the right encoding. Or maybe it's not fully compatible with Vista, and is causing these errors. I wouldn't know since I don't use that program though.

Try changing the file in WordPad and see what happens, or Notepad.

I would grab Ubuntu from ubuntu.org and use whatever tools strike your fancy. A linux server is much easier to maintain than a Windows one (maybe someone else with experience will vouch for me?). I have maintaned test servers on both. I ultimately gave up on my Windows one despite Dreamweaver. Actually, Dreamweaver runs perfectly under Wine (winehq.org) in Ubuntu 8.04.1
