Sarah Palin anybody?

I personally think she is just the fresh of breath air the republicans needed.

I'm really enjoying following everything here in Britain. American politics is a bit like a soap opera, more entertaining than Eastenders anyway!

Lol, fresh of breath air huh?

I love how she says that the Russians will attack Alaska first. Like anyone would do that, too much of a waste of their time.

In my opinion, Barack Obama is an excellent choice for President. He is well-educated and well-spoken. He has great ideas and conveys the charm and diplomacy to unify the nation. Barack is not only a African decent, but also he is most qualified candidates of the election. Also he has strong ideas for changing the nation from incompetent mismanagement of Bush.

Alaska is a huge strategic target. We've sent fighters up from Elmendorf and Eielson Air Force Bases to intercept Russian bombers on several occasions. Alaska is the start of the North American air defense shield from Russia. Any enemy that attacks from our West (specifically Northwest) would be insane not to go after Alaska as a primary target, followed by targets in Canada and along the western part of the United States.

Also, the oil we've got up there - a great prize for any wouldbe invader.

The National Guard would also be key in any engagement with an enemy to keep them from getting a foothold in Alaska, and guess who's been in charge of the Alaska Air and Army National Guard wink.gif

Edit: By the way, I think you'll find this pretty interesting:
http://www.alaskaairguard.com/Clear.html
The primary mission of Clear AFS is to provide Early Warning of Intercontinental
Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs) and Sea-Launched Ballistic Missiles (SLBMs) to the Missile
Correlation Center (MCC) at North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD)

Hmm, seems to me like that would be an important thing for us to have.

I vote for Barack Obama. He is new, fresh spirit, not afraid with the challenges of the moment. I think he could also be a good partner for foreign leaders to show the power of America, without giving the impression of being rude. Apart from this, he's also the right man to bring back better economy and a better society.
DWM
in my view, they both suck..

oh and something else: obama will never be able to keep up his promises.. if he for example wants to stop all wars the us has, then 50% of the us economy goes down.. the pressure will be so big that he will HAVE to go to war with us troops
swordz
Because it supports the economy is hardly a reason to go to war. And if it's why we're there, we should definitely stop.

Obama, (MY VOTE)
Hes a Democrat

Mccain,
Republican

Why should the working men give their money to the people thats already rich?
Jetteh22
Well.... Obama is highest in polls (once again).

I watched the last debate (the first one I actually watched)...

Mccain just made himself look like an ass. Nearly every time he tried to say something bad about Obama's theories Obama just basically blew him out of the water by proving McCain wrong.

"Here, Plumber Joe, here is how much you will be fined. ZERO."

I thought that was great.

Basically, I think Obama owned that debate big time. He answered all the questions with not only WHAT he wanted to do but HOW he wanted to do it. Mccain just said 'what' he wanted to do without elaborating much at all.

The ONLY good thing Mccain did, in my opinion of course, is say to Obama something like "I'm not Bush. If you wanted to run against Bush you should have ran 4 years ago." But even so, he showed his anger which isn't a good thing.

Obama kept his cool.

Also, Mccain -basically- called Obama a terrorist... When they were on the subject of a 'dirty campaign' Obama said he thought it was wrong that Palin didn't say -anything- when people were screaming 'terrorist! kill him!' at one of her speeches.

And what did Mccain say? Basically (I don't remember word for word): "I'm proud of them. They're patriotic" Or somethign similar... I don't know how other people took it but I took it that he pretty much called Obama a terrorist.. He even mentioned Obama being 'linked' to a terrorist group too though that one guy (forget his name) which Obama said he's kept bringing up even though it's been disproved.

It really make me sick watching it, but it was interesting.

It's gonna be just as close as Gore and Bush, this election will.
aussiemcgr
That Obama having breakfast with a terrorist crap was just stupid. I mean, don't they have any good arguments against him?

O no, Obama had breakfast with a terrorist 20 years ago in a diner, we cant have that for a president.

Honestly, how scared are the American people of terrorists? It is one of the worst arguments I've heard in a long time.

As for the debates, McCain hasnt told me a damn thing about what he plans on doing. All I've heard from him is what Obama is going to do. Don't get me wrong, Obama has been talking crap about McCain aswell, but at least Obama talks about what he is going to do. I want McCain to talk about what he is going to do, not what Obama is going to do.
SwintellSoft
lol mccain doesnt talk about what hes going to do becuase he knows it sucks XD how ever im not an obama supporter either
Techie
Obama. Also I really hate when people call him a terrorist just because his middle name is Hussein.

those ppl are probably in the 13% of united states citizens who think Bush is doing a good job smile.gif
Sky Hintack
None of the candidates are really "the best" here in this election. It's more of "pick the lesser of two evils."

My vote is for John McCain.

If any of who know who the governor of Massachusetts is, Deval Patrick, then you know that another like him, Barack Obama, would be a bad choice. They want the fame and glory, but they could care less to their state, city, town employees. They'll raise your taxes and make you pay through the roof, but they'll also be getting a nice pay raise to pay for their expensive lives. Another thing, why should any of us who saved and worked for what we wanted have to pay for someone with the same options, but chose to do nothing with them?

Sure, McCain did make the mistake of trying to make Obama look bad the past few weeks.
And don't even kid about Sara Palin. Maybe the people against her are just scared that she might not have all the answers now, but because she's a woman and she might actually accomplish something compared to all these other talkers. You might be surprised what some might do if they get the chance. huh.gif

Do you understand Obama's tax policy? His policy is that you will get taxed base on your annual salary, not how much money you have. This is to take pressure off of the lower-class families who can just barely afford their taxes. The idea is that people making buku-bucks should contribute more to the country instead of just hording all their money to waste. Oh and by the way, Obama has openly said that he is in the category of people who will have to pay the higher taxes. However, based on the amount pay the president gets, he will only be paying about an additional $12 for taxes, opposed to John McCain's plan, in which he will end up saving about $7,871. Who is greedier here? Obviously John McCain will be the one who will be paying the least. I will add the chart for the taxes at the bottom of post.

Sarah Palin has said many stupid things, so I will just mention a few.

Abortion
Constitution does offer an inherent right to privacy. (Oct 2008)
Choose life, even if her own daughter were raped. (Nov 2006)

Economy
Predatory lenders got us into the housing crisis. (Oct 2008)

Civil Rights
Non-support of anything but traditional marriage. (Oct 2008)
Hillary put 18 million cracks in glass ceiling. (Sep 2008)
Vetoed bill denying benefits to gays, as unconstitutional. (Aug 2008)
HIV/AIDS among Alaska Natives is public health crisis. (Mar 2008)
Comply with same-sex partner benefits despite disagreement. (Dec 2006)
Marriage only be between and man and a woman. (Nov 2006)
Prefers term "anti-rural" to "anti-Native". (Nov 2006)
Special legislative session on same-sex health benefits. (Nov 2006)
Ok to deny benefits to homosexual couples. (Aug 2006)
No spousal benefits for same-sex couples. (Jul 2006)
Top priorities include preserving definition of "marriage". (Jul 2006)

Corporations
Governor must act as effective CEO on behalf of Alaskans. (Nov 2006)

There is a long list so I'll just leave the url: http://www.ontheissues.org/sarah_Palin.htm

Here is a list of Palin's beliefs:

Strongly Opposes (strongly disagrees with the following ideas)
Abortion is a woman's right.
Same-sex domestic partnership benefits
US out of Iraq

Opposes (disagrees with the following ideas)
Replace coal & oil with alternatives
Privatize Social Security
More federal funding for health coverage
Make taxes more progressive
Illegal immigrants earn citizenship
The Patriot Act harms civil liberties

Strongly Favors (strongly agrees with the following ideas)
Teacher-led prayer in public schools
Death Penalty
Mandatory Three Strikes sentencing laws
Absolute right to gun ownership
Expand the armed forces (by promoting in Alaska's National Guard)

Another good thing Obama will do is giving tax reductions to companies that do not outsource. This is an attempt to keep the jobs inside the country and help create more jobs.

If you want to go deeper into why exactly you find the decrepit old man better, I will be more than happy to tell you why Obama is a better choice.

If Obama gets in, he is just going to be assassinated. I don't mind the lad but Americans are ready for an african-american President.

Jacob.

To be honest, I don't care who gets in house this time - I don't even live in America but I think Obama would make a good president, but like every other politicain now a days, he just says what the people want to hear then goes and does the complete oppisite.
Jacob
YAYY! Obama is the new president. smile.gif

Barack Obama has beaten all stereotypes.

Who would've thought, a black man bamed Barack Hussein Obama, would be president of one of the most racist countries in the world?

This is seriously amazing.
IamShipon1988
Wow a sweeping victory, with nearly 50% more electoral votes. Now his job...give us what he promised. From what I have heard, Obama is already getting death threats. This will be one hard presidential term.

Yup that's true. I'm more worried about him when he does take office. It will be very hard.

Well, the economy is the big issue right now.

Seems like the logic behind Obama's tax plan should help, but an obvious problem occurred as far as short term goes. Seems like a lot of people were selling their shares after the election and the stock market crashed again. This could be because the richer people are worried about the new tax plan, if so, that is a big problem as far as short term goes.

For those who don't understand the logic behind the tax plan, let's have an economy lesson; you lower the tax on the poor people, and raise the taxes on the upper class. With lower taxes on the poor, they now have a bit more money and can afford to live, and with higher taxes on the rich, they now do not have as much money, and the range of total income goes up. This causes the poverty threshold to go up, which causes the US dollar to go up, which, being a consumer country, forces prices of goods to go down (due to international trade). Basically, the tax plan is not to pump money into the national bank, but rather raise the value of the US dollar. Realistically, this will take some time to effectively work, could be about half-way through Obama's term until we see a drastic difference. Also keep in mind that if the US dollar is going to go up, it would be a good time to buy into stocks while the price is still low, expectionally companies overseas.

He doesn't get into office until the middle of January (I think, maybe its the end.. 20th or something?)

But yes, thank you for saying that. Having all of these replies sent to my phone with people talking about him being assassinated, my friends telling me he's going to be assassinated. There is probably a higher chance that Mccain would have died in office from a natural cause than there is that Obama will get assassinated.

Why do you think this hasn't been on the news? There is going to be WAYY too much security to assassinate him. If he does get assassinated, America will be thrown into total chaos. I am willing to bet at least 75% of the blacks would automatically blame the white people. Democrats will blame Republicans and the conspiracy theorists will be having a feild day.

Thank god Obama won, though. Hopefully he'll help us.

I'm not sure where you are living, but I still run into PLENTY of racists down here in Florida. Talked to a few people who have said "I'm not voting for Obama, I'm not voting for a n****r." I like to take it upon myself to tell them directly to their faces that they are racist bitches.

From what I hear, next year there will be a brown man running for president. Russell Peters ideal world is beginning to take shape.

I hope not. I didn't vote for him, but if that happens, it will be a sad state of affairs for the American People. The fact that an African American actually got elected (a short four years after an African American told me it would "probably never happen") means that America has made great strides in racial equality and that is something we can really be proud of.
