As it is, we can't send emails from our website. That's fine since it was for security of the server. But if you don't want your visitors to be of inconvenience and be able to send you private messages, you can read them from your own website (wordpress.) For me, that is just what I've wanted so I've asked around if there's a way to let visitors leave a private message through wordpress by leaving a message on the database, or better, on a flatfile. I was told to use Tracking on cforms plugin. Here's my result.

I'm not a techie but if you're interested, here's how:
1. Download and install the cforms plugin for wordpress.
2. Click on "cformsII" and then "Global settings"
3. Look for "Database Input tracking." You only need to check the "Enable Database tracking." I could never use the second one. Then update your settings. The plugin would insert 2 tables into the database.
4. Configure you contact form and create a page for it. Try it out. Afterwards, go back to cformsII and click on "Tracking." You'll find your message there.

The drawback to this is that you won't be notified of any new messages. So you'll have to check every once in a while. Second, as I've said that I'm not a techie, but I know having a large database would slow down your website so you need to delete your past tracking messages. Or you could always save them.

I'd like to have a techie advice if this is good for the database and that it won't mess up the database in the long run. Advise please? Or that it's not a security risk to the server. Thanks!

Thanks for this advice and finding a safe route for the server, staff and users.
The database shouldn't be a problem. It will get bigger, but nothing to cause any problems.

Thank you for your advice! I'm glad that there won't be any problem with the database in the future.
Since it was the database, I was just wasn't too sure about it.

I don't understand why you don't just let them comment on your blog like normal? I had wordpress installed here and was able to receive comments just fine (no email notification) but they still were able to comment. Maybe I misread?

Oh, cuz commenting would make your messages public. I was just thinking about when visitors wanted to send private ones. And I've posted on the contact form other ways in contacting me so all I'm doing was just offering them options on how to contact me if they wanted to. smile.gif

Ohhh i see, Then yea, what you're doing is the best idea. And I don't think that your database would get that huge and slow down your site. Just look at zymic forums, there are tons of posts and users and the site isn't slow at all. And I've seen much larger sites running forums with plenty more posts, so I don't think you have anything to worry about. If it seems like a problem, just put some nice ads on your site and make some money for a paid hosting account.

This is an awesome alternative though. I haven't been able to find a decent one that works, so this is the one aye..
Again, thanks for sharing.
