If they made it legal it would help the crime rate go down...I am sure it will happen in time, Beer used to be illegal in usa for a period of time, look at it now smile.gif

Legalizing ANYTHING that is currently illegal must by definition "make the crime rate go down". If every crime were legalized, the crime rate would drop to zero. But would that solve any problems, or make things worse?

There was a time here in America when there were not nearly so many laws regulating and restricting and taxing every level of human activity. And people had happier, more secure lives. The streets were safer. What is the difference?

In the old days, people were held responsible for the consequences of their actions, and everyone understood that. Most people understood that if they damaged someone's property, they had to make restitution. Meaning they had to pay for the damage they did.

Now, nearly everyone relies on governments, insurance companies, etc. to take responsibility for their health, their safety, their livelihood, and just about everything else. And they live reckless, irresponsible lives.

That has a cost. When someone else takes responsibility for you, that someone expects something in return. Insurance companies lobby for laws to be passed protecting people from themselves. And politicians are always happy to pass more laws and spend more of your money.

You want marijuana to be legal? Then while you are demanding that, demand as well some simple laws that hold people responsible for their actions (and the actions of minors in their care). If they kill someone while "under the influence", maybe they didn't know what they were doing then. But nobody forced them to get "under the influence" in the first place. Make it so that no one, not even the mayor's son, not even the President himself, can claim temporary drug-induced insanity. Let the charge be first-degree murder, same as if the perpetrator were completely sober at the time of the crime.

If people once again chose to be responsible for their own actions, and lived by the Ten Commandments, they would have no need for billions of laws and regulations and taxes, and would not demand them. As it is, they are deathly afraid of those who might do what they themselves might do, given the opportunity, and end up demanding that the Government protect them from everyone else, at whatever cost. And that is why America is losing its freedom and being rapidly transformed into a third-world communist dictatorship.

Making an ammendment now would be admitting that it had been wrongly made illegal for over half a century.

it was?

I think that someone who is an adult should be allowed to make their own decision about whether or not to smoke the stuff. The same does not apply to kids.

And frankly, I think a lot of the problems that arise from drug dealing stem from the fact that it is illegal.

That being said, marijuana is not as harmless as many would make it out to be....

For starters, it is not like alcohol. People can drink alcohol for many reasons. People smoke pot recreationally for one reason, to get high. Not saying that is bad, just that it is a significant difference from alcohol.

Also, speaking from personal experience and from research, there are some people who should not smoke the stuff. There are many people with certain types of conditions, such as schizophrenia and related illnesses, clinical depression, some types of stress disorders, marijuana will fuck them up. Especially the kick ass weed you get nowadays. Fact. And anyone who denies the effect that marijuana can have on motivation and productivity for some people is denying the obvious.

I'm not arguing against it's use, I am just saying it is not quite as benign as many people would make it out to be. And those that choose to use it regularly should make themselves aware of some of the issues.

Marijuana or any bad drug should be illegal because it may make people do bad stuff that they are not aware they are doing. There are other things that can make your brain go fuzzy and unable to distinguish what you're doing but at least banning Marijuana should help. Plus respectable people are normally against Marijuana. When was the last time you saw some engineer in an expensive suit doing pot? It's normally the kids or people with lack of life experience who say Marijuana should be legal and anything else is OMG oppressing their freedom. Rules don't oppress your freedom. You're still free to break rules and go to jail, right? I can't understand how any sane person would say Marijuana should be legal.

Sure, you can make a lot of tax off it. Better to go to the government than the Cartels.

100 dollars says it happens here in california before any other state

would do a lot do good in the end

i dont do it, but i have a lot of friends that do. its probably just as popular as smoking, if not moreso.
bobbbyboy
i think it should be legal, it was legal for 4 billion years, and its recorded in history that humans have used it for atleast 10's of thousands of years. so just because it was made 80 years ago doesnt make it right, all the doctors i speak to tell me its actually just a plant that grows from seed and its never actually killed a single person or animal.

YESSS!
Because it's only a plant!

I like this answer. Great argument. Couldn't have said it better smile.gif

Yes it should be legalized because not only can it be used a source of income and jobs for a lot of people, but it will also stimulate the US economy if made legal.

Plus its not near as harmful as alcohol...never heard of anyone overdosing on MJ
Affilojetpack
It depends on how people will use it. huh.gif
frmjin
if it use for jst medical purpos then its not wrong.....
lizon
It was legal in this country up until the 1930's. Legalize it, tax it, put the drug lords out of business. Think of the money saved from not having to hunt it down anymore.
nemaless
Hey, dudes

I think marijuana must be made legal, but in small dose in order people nowadays would be able to suffer less from different stress and nevrotic deseases, it should be used in a form of a medicine, not a drug
As a result, the use extracted from it will surpass all the harm connected with this plant

wacko.gif he make it all legal, its better.

I live in the Netherlands and can buy it almost on every corner.
The only thing is that growing it above 5 plants ( if im right ) is not legal, then your a criminal.
So why is growing ilegal and selling legal?
But what the heck,we can buy it without problem
norfolkHG
No. it can be abused and can harm people's health.
csscoll
Selling and using marijuana should not be legalized. People will abuse the use of it. When people are under the influence
they are not aware of what they are doing, they have wrong judgment and may cause accidents or may injure other people.
messere
I fully agree with csscoll!

I'm not a user and I don't support the use of it by any means, but if you look at it from entirely a political standpoint, the fact of the matter is that the US is spending billions of dollars a year (or perhaps millions, I'm not sure) on the "War on Drugs." The unfortunate thing is that the "War on Drugs" is a war you will simply never win. It is impossible. From a fiscal perspective, the smartest thing the US Government could do is legalize Marijuana (I'm not talking about cocaine and that other shit), Regulate it, and Tax it. The exact same procedure used on Cigarettes and Alcohol. What will this mean? It means the "War on Drugs" just lost a player (fighting Marijuana), which means less money will have to be spent there. It means that the illegal marijuana importation industry will immediately be gone, which has the potential to save thousands of lives. It means the small time offenders in jail for marijuana possession will be possibly released, so less tax dollars will have to be spent keeping them behind bars. It means that drug dealers that sell marijuana have to either open up a shop or find something else to do. With regulation, Marijuana will actually be more contained while legal. With the taxes, it will bring in thousands, if not millions, of dollars for the government every year. How will the usage rate be impacted? My guess is a very small impact. Consider the number of people who smoke marijuana just because they like the feeling of breaking the law or "sticking it to the man." If its legal, they will most likely stop. You also have to consider the number of people who will start doing it because it is now legal. What is the difference between the two groups of people? No idea, but it probably isn't the entire country.

The truth is the marijuana is not more dangerous than cigarettes and alcohol. All three alter your perspective and have lasting effects on your health. But that is the fault of the individual that uses it. I figure that if people are going to choose to hurt themselves, why not let the government get its cut?
credasys
On my country, I think it's no. Lots people especially teenage sue this as their means of addiction.
wfano
in making marijuana legal would be a big blow to the underworld
alternativetoo

No, because as I know it, it doesn't bring any good in the society so why legalize it?

bencede esrar yasal olması lazım alkoldan daha zararsız ve alkol içenm sapıtır esrar içen sapıtmaz bence sadece dogal bir bitkidir..

As a current law enforcement student i hear a lot of horror stories about the violence it causes and how it funds the cartels. So yeah no matter what your opinion is on the plant itself it needs to be legalized even if only so that it stops funding mass murderers. hunter.gif
