I'm new here and trying upload files. I've read the FTP tutorial and tried to follow the instructions but I always get a "530 Login authentication failed." I've tried multiple variations on the theme of host and username in case I didn't get it right, but still no log in.

I've noticed that the port number that I entered (21) immediately vanishes when I hit the button to connect. Could that be related to the problem? Any hints of any kind?

the port 21 vanishing is not the problem. can you post what you are inputting? (with exception to the password)

Host: mysitename.vndv.com (I also tried just vndv.com)
Username: mysitename.vndv@vndv.com (I also tried just vndv@vndv.com, and other variations.)

Use
Host: mysitename.vndv.com
username: mysitename
password: ********

Now I'm getting an error that says, ECONNREFUSED - Connection refused by server". That happens whether I use your login method or my old one. Don't know what that's all about.

try:

Hostname: ftp.mysite.vndv.com
Username: mysite
Password : ********

adding the "ftp" made the difference for me using filezilla.
(you will have to wait untill the server is up again.)

well the problem might be that you put in the port #. don't put that in as it obtains the port # for you. follow these instructions as I do have that program.

I choose a domain and username as farmer.vndv.com and farmer. password is going to be hostingaccount
server: farmer.vndv.com
username: farmer
password: hostingaccount
port #: should be left blank.

follow these instructions as I have to program and has been working it since 2005.

if it still doesn't work, then there might be something wrong with your server and must wait for the server to respawn.


check your options to see if there is anything going wrong with the program. it might be the program you just downloaded it from. where did you get the program?

Remeber server is still in read only

and port don't have to be left blank you can put port 21 in there or leave it blank.
