Full Version: Designing/coding An Attractive Webpage For A Band

Hey all,
Over the last several months I've been all over this forum asking for help with coding and designing etc, most of it had to with the website I'm trying to create for my band. I feel like I have the knowledge etc to create a great looking page, but I've been at a mental block for so long... I just can't seem to get it right... my band doesn't have really any artistic background so they're satisfied with just about anything I come up with. I really need some advice and input on what you all think, how should my page look? We're an alternative rock band, but our music is heavier than most alternative rock. What type of coding should I use CSS/HTML?PHP?JAVA? (I don't have flash or any knowledge with flash but I'm sure most websites for bands are designed with it..).
Here are some examples of bands webpages that I like:
http://systemofadown.com/
http://skillet.com/
http://blink182.com/
http://www.payableondeath.com/
*really like this onehttp://godsmack.com/

All these pages are extremely 'flashy' and have that rock and roll feeling to them.

I design in PhotoShop, I'm not what I would consider a 'professional' graphic designer, but I can draw and create. I do best with a visual example I.E: Drawing an apple while looking at an apple.

I really don't know what kind of information to give you. I honestly don't know what I want, I think that's the biggest problem....lol

ANY help at all would be appreciated greatly!

For a demo of some of our music go to http://nascentdescent.com/musicplayer.html.
*Note the link above will take you to an unfinished page with a media player on it, hit play to listen.
**Also note that the song in that link is called Ghost of The Day by Nascent Descent and is copyrighted by Nascent Descent.
*** The track is a prerelease, meaning that it has not really hit the mixing table yet, only minor adjustments have been done, the fully mixed version will be avaible soon.

Thanks,

God Blink182's site is so hideous. You like that? None of it lines up, and there is just no flow, content everywhere. Ugh. I'm off to bed right now, but I may edit my post tomorrow with some actually helpful information.

if you're looking for a professionally designed/coded site like one of those, I can do one for you for much cheaper than any of those bands' labels paid. Just pm me.

As for how it should look, try not to copy other band sites too much, or else your site won't look original.

*sighs*, Kevin. If you want I can do it for you...Lol.
Just PM me and I will get onto it.

Thanks guys, I sent Jacob an PM hopefully he'll have time tongue.gif.

I downloaded Adobe flash's 30day trial, if I like it, or more importantly feel like I can use it, I may buy a copy, the student version is only 200 bucks. I thought it was as much as CS3 Extended was...

All of those sites are pretty bad, design wise. So I will send you a mock up of one when I am up to it.

Thanks Narzy, Some of them weren't my favorite either, there just some bands that have a similar music style to ours
