PNG Transparency Problem IE

Hello, I had a problem with the quality of my gifs, so i decided to use transparent png files. This worked wonders in Firefox, but IE has problems. I know you can download a script (pngfix.js) but it doesn't seem to work with css background images.

I was wondering if anyone knows a solution to my problem.

I would reccomend Gimp Just magic wand that white spots, save as PNG and pretty self explanatory from there.

Ive been using The GIMP for like a year and such and you can be transparent in ANY type of image. You just go into filters > layers then make a new layer thats transperant, then you just right click > merge and then wherever you want the image to be transperant get out your eraser, choose a brush and set opacity for the eraser at 100. Then you save as whatever and there ya go tongue.gif

Tried this? http://bjorkoy.com/past/2007/4/8/the_easiest_way_to_png/

You could also try saving it as an 8-bit PNG, I think IE6 supports that to an extent (with IE7 adding support for 24-bit, and it still lacking anything higher). You might lose quality though.

There is a way to fix this using CSS:

That link you provided uses a function called opacity, but sadly opacity will not validate on w3 because it is still an unknown function that is hardly used. Often the transparency problems happens because of the shadows/glow effect. So wherever you have glow effect, IE will take the background of the glow area as white. If you provide a link, it would be a bit helpful for us to help you out.

this is true, i wish people would just upgrade there browser from IE to at least IE7 if not FF. I personally, will not try to support a browser below IE6. If it works great, if they cant see it, then its their problem, not mine.

The reason why some choose not change from the default IE is because their computer cannot support such ram hogging software. I run IE from time to time for my design and when I check the cpu usage, its killing about 5% while FF kills only 3% max. IE 6 I know killed about the same as FF

well i used IE6 for about 3 years now.. or more ? and i known about FF for less than a year now (yea where the F was i..) and IE6 when i clic loads in about 5 seconds... FF loads in about 20 seconds :/

main reason why i hate FF, even tho it rocks and has more features and is safer... for me its still slower... at least ony my PC :/

they could at least do use the favor of updating to IE7 then and next year IE8. I mean they even make the new IE's work with windows 2000.

From experience with working with barely computer illiterate people, this is enough to drive them to suicide, opening a CD is scary enough for them, let alone installing an updated, foreign ui for something they are barely comfortable with.

Then there are those who have such a slow connection or are paying for the time they're online, they can't afford to download an updated application, the gain from their perspective isn't worth it.

Sad fact of the matter is you have to accommodate all users.

Sadly what Brad said is very true. People are claustrophobic when it comes to computer. I know my father is scared half to death when it comes to upgrading since the last upgrade he did with his computer, it ended up killing his OS (due to a stupid error). From then on, he's the most carefully man I've seen when it came to anything relating to PC. A friend of mine still operates on a windows 98 OS. I don't think they have many upgrades for their internet browser now-a-days since most require XP or better.
