I am planning on starting my own website, thanks to Zymic Now I can.

My questions are:

What will be better in terms of looks Flash or Web 2.0. If they are the same thing, please let me know.

Here are 2 examples, one for each.

Flash

Web 2.0

It really just depends what kind of page you're trying to design, and what you're going to do with the page. Also it depends on what languages you already know. If you don't know any flash scripting you're better off starting with a web 2.0 design done in HTML/CSS. In many cases people try to use flash for things that they shouldn't necessarily use it for. If something can be done in HTML/CSS and not loose quality etc, you should do it in HTML/CSS.

Flash is cool but not all people have the latest flash player, or some have a slow computer. Flash doesn't go well with either. Personally if I ever did a page in flash I would have a version done in HTML/CSS so that you could choose which one you wanted to see.

Good luck,

You are right!

I think I will try doing 2 versions of the same site, as you mentioned before, Not all people have the latest version of flash.

The problem with html is that people can see the source code. With flash It'll be harder if not impossible for them to see the source code.

Thanks for your reply. wink.gif

There are plenty of ways to mask your code so that it's not visible wink.gif just put it behind a protected page or something

And what's wrong with people seeing your source code? Honestly? If it's a problem of people ripping your layout, there are other ways to rip layouts without seeing the source code.

If someone wants something bad enough, they will find a way.

Well... You are right somehow. Once the server is up and running I'll upgrade to Flash cool.gif

I find FLash more attractive. lol

NNNOOOO!!!! Do not use flash. It is annoying and pointless, resource hungry and overall, ridiculous. Find alternatives without using flash.

Damn narzy, there are good uses for Flash. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean he shouldn't have the option. I think as long as he makes an html version he'll be fine.

Don't be such a biased hater.

Depends on how you use flash, if you use a small amount then should be fine, but Flash is not pointless or ridiculous smile.gif..
Because you don't know how to use it don't mean its pointless, inless your work you have done with flash is pointless .. I bet bezz would have something to say about this XD
Jacob
Small amounts is ok. Sites in flash should not be allowed anywhere. Games and small applications are fine, just not sites.

Ok, I'll add a bit.

Flash helps to create an experience rather than just delivering content. If you just want to deliver straight forward information, html is probably the way to go. To put on a show and have an interactive experience, flash is very nice. http://www.vw.com/ is the best example of a well put together flash site I can come up with at the moment.

Flash applets within an html site can add interactivity to a basic page (music/video players, dynamic photoalbums, games)

If you are new to webdesign or programming, html is probably a better option.

It just depends on personal preference really. For me, I don't like flash so much. While it can look amazing, what about browsers and/or computers that don't support flash? Or what about people who have crappy ass computers that freeze with flash? If you're wanting people from just about any browser (including those of phones and/or gaming systems) to be able to see your site then you may want to stick with the basics.
