I'm trying to create a layout that represents myself for my portfolio. I know a lot of you guys dont like dark color schemes, and I completely under stand why, but for this one I think I need to go dark. Now I've created the basic layout for the page it's pretty simple, but it seems like it needs something added, or something changed, I cant put my finger on it...

Thanks,
Kevin

I think what you could do actually, is have the logo a little higher, and have the homepage content on the left. Because right now it looks more like a splash page. But i see where you are going with it, and the text is nice.

off topic: what kind of guitar do you have? I cant really tell from the picture.
k.digennaro
so like this wozzym?

*and the guitar is a tradition SP-1, I actually choose it over the american fender, i love that guitar

edit: thanks for the comment on the text smile.gif hand made wink.gif. If i every learn how to make a font, maybe ill turn it into one lol
wozzym
yeah like that, but have the logo on the same side it was on your first try, and maybe content underneath? if you dont want content on this page then you can just go with the first one and that would look fine.

*and nice. I want: http://www.gibson.com/en-us/divisions/gibs...lespaul/studio/ or http://www.gibson.com/en-us/divisions/gibs...er/firebirdvii/ but saving up for that one is tough!

I like where you're going with this kevin, but like wozzy said keep the name and the pic of you and the nav buttons all on the left, then you can put a content box on the right with the content.

And I think the nav buttons should be "not" so plain.
And this time it's real, I'm having a hard time reading the text, I can read digennaro designs but I can't read the other bit of text.
k.digennaro
thanks guys, yeah i was planning on doing something to the nav buttons, dono wat yet.
@trippin, wat text can't you read? the next above the nav buttons? I guess i could try to make it a little clearer, but honest it was supposed to be more of a signature than text you read

edit: I added a suttle gradient in the background to add some contrast to the nav section, i didnt update the nav buttons yet, im trying to figure out how I want them to look. I moved the nav and the image and the text to the left. I think i might make the design around the image a little brighter... not really sure yet, i also might thicken the text that says "DiGennaroDesigns" I want it to be more of an eye catcher.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Kevin

Only thing I can say is you need to work on centering and aligning things better. And it's better to do it in the beginning than when your layouts finished.

Okay lets start with blue, none of your borders are the same size, blue and cyan are both making the same point, but with different parts. Blue is the thick border, cyan is the tiny border. All the numbers on there are pixels.

Yea the bottom part of the blue border could remain that thick, but the sides should definitely be the same

And the red part, I don't know what you did there, but the line just gets 1px smaller for no reason. Might wanna fix that.

Like I said before, It's much easier to fix this little errors in the beginning. I used to never use the ruler or the guides in photoshop, but now they are my best friends.

Thanks for the help trippin, i try to use the ruler, its just that sometimes i miss measure and wat not, I'm going back and going to re create the nav section in its own document, ill focus on fixing the measurements, and I want to do some thing a little more in the back ground of the nav (around the image) im thinking a cool looking spider web using that same style that is used in the nav above.

All visible elements are ok, I just think it is imbalanced. Lacks symmetry for me.
