This site is now for sale again.... $100 takes it.
I'm not "abandoning" it, I just don't have the resources to keep up with the huge amount of active users

you hosted them on your own servers? locally?

Dec 16 2008, 04:32 AM
i have a server, but it isnt local

Dec 16 2008, 05:21 AM
hm, how much bandwidth did they eat up? I am thinking of starting my own proxy, but I dont have a clue as to how much bandwidth it will require. I heard that they take up next-to-nothing on memory, need 256 or better ram, a really good processor and a but-load of bandwidth.
Mortalis9
Dec 16 2008, 06:07 AM
i put restrictions on my proxy so people can't download things with it.
before i did that i was using 600 gigs/month, now im using maybe 10 gigs per day on 6 proxies
MoonLight_Dream
Dec 16 2008, 06:31 AM
lol, i saw the 600 and freaked before i finished reading. So, a 75 gig band would be ok for 1 or 2 proxies then? How did you place restrictions on them, got a snippet of code?
Mortalis9
Dec 16 2008, 06:40 AM
CODE
// allow hotlinking from these sites, seperate by comma (make sure you eneter your site's domains)
$domains="ecru.info,www.ecru.info";
// convert domains into an array
$domains=explode(",",$domains);
// if there is a request:
if($_GET['q']!="")
{
// get referer
$referer=explode("/",($_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER']));
// if the referer is not allowed:
if(!in_array($referer[2],$domains))
{
// redirect to homepage and finish script
header("Location: http://".$domains[0]."/");
exit();
}

can you place that anywhere in the code? or do you need to put it somewhere specific like at the beginning or something?

I would suggest getting an Unmetered VPS like what I am using to host the proxies now.
I can probably get you one for around $40/m with sufficient ram for it.
Also, I fixed the lagging problem. It was lighttpd. I changed it to apache and it is running sooo much faster now.
MoonLight_Dream
Dec 18 2008, 10:41 PM
where are you getting umetered at?
sclek
Dec 19 2008, 12:28 AM
A friend of mine runs a company that offers vps.
The proxy uses about 9gb of bandwidth a day. And there are 7 running on the server at the moment.
I can let you host proxies on my vps (5 proxies) for $7.50/month.
Unlimited Bandwidth and 100mb disk space.

Dec 20 2008, 08:57 PM
nice. when I have them ready to go I'll drop you a line. Can you allow CGI proxies and Php proxies? I want to have both due to their own personality quirks
I also have a blog site I am currently hosting here. I am planning on buying a domain (.com) for it soon, can you offer space for it and the name?
sclek
Dec 23 2008, 03:16 AM
How about I give you 100mb disk and unmetered bandwidth on my vps for $7.50/m. CGI Proxies use a lot of memory/cpu I heard so you would be better off with php proxies.
Just for other people to know (because I run a web hosting company). I don't host clients on the vps, vps is just for my proxy sites.
EDIT:
VPS also uses LxAdmin 40 domains, not cPanel.

yeah cgi eats up processors, however it has 2 good points. 1st, uses minimum bandwidth and 2nd, it allows javascripts. Which means people can use them to login in to sites like myspace, facebook, and others. That would be a big selling point for a proxy for kids in school and such
Mortalis9
Dec 23 2008, 03:53 AM
phproxy allows javascript as well..and when I had a CGI proxy it was using 600 gigs of bandwidth a month, now with 4 PHProxies im using 1/4 that
sclek
Dec 23 2008, 03:57 AM
Actually I have tried and you can login to Facebook without Javascript.

fyi
on your proxyjunction.info site
"Why use proxyjunction.info Proxy?
The main reason why is because our domain proxyjunction.info doesn't contain the word proxy. Some school filters block any websites that has the word proxy in the domain."
lol.

Dec 27 2008, 07:17 PM
LOL. That is because a the sites are linked to one folder with some php code that changes the hostname. Less work for me LOL.
