Sorry if this is not the right section to post this in but I thought it was the closest related topic.

I'm purchasing a domain name from somebody but there's a slight problem. I've never purchased a domain name, let alone one that's already registered by somebody. Also he does not know how to transfer domains either.

Could somebody please fill me in on the process of transferring domains or link me to somewhere that could?

I really appreciate any help that's given.

Find out who your friend has registered the domain with. Then tell him to go to their site(the registrars) there's usually instructions with steps of how to transfer the domain and so on.

His domain is registered through 1and1.com

I found this page: http://faq.1and1.com/domains/domain_transfers/21.html .

I've heard a bunch of bad things about 1and1.com and I would like to get the domain transfered to godaddy.com.

Does that mean that once he goes through and cancels the domain and selects for it to go to another provider, that he can just give me the auth code and I can enter it in and the process is done and it will be officially registered under my name?
