Just a question regarding reseller accounts..

Currently I'm on shared hosting at lunarpages. I was thinking about getting a reseller account and just offering X amount of slots for X amount of dollars / slot.

IE.. Pay the $5 / month myself for the reseller hosting. Offer 20 slots only for, say, $3 / month... That would give me $60 / month giving me an extra $55 / month spending money.

I could do this with multiple reseller accounts, ending up with a couple hundred a month in just extra spending money. I wouldn't over sell because I wouldn't do more than X amount of slots per reseller account.

But...

I don't see how it can work. According to LunarPages, their reseller account ( http://www.lunarpages.com/reseller-hosting/ ) comes with only:

1000 MB of Storage
100 GB of Data Transfer.

If I were to offer 20 slots on these servers, that would only be (per acct):
50 MB of Storage
5 GB of Data Transfer

And.. I don't think 50 MB of storage would be enough to even charge $3 / month on, ya know?

And it doesn't seem that LunarPages offers any additional plans for reselling.

Am I reading it wrong, or do I just not understand it correctly? Is this 1000MB/100GB just for MY SITE, or is that what I have to -give out- to other people?

Thanks in advance.

lunar pages is interesting. They charge 5$ to you for YOUR site. Then after that, they automatically set up a reseller account for you. Users buy plans through you but are really buying it from Lunar Pages. You do not sell your own bandwith/storage space. Look at: https://secure.lunarpages.com/signup/order:...XJwYWdlcy5jb20=

It might be more helpful to read that smile.gif.

That's pretty shitt. So, basically I would want to go with a different host if I do plan on doing this, correct?
sclek
Well you probably should. What they are doing sounds a little like Reseller Panel where you go to another host to order.
Jetteh22
Yeah, that's retarded.
I want to be able to offer hosting to people for a cheap price, without overselling at all where I could get 30-50 bucks extra / month, but can't find a place that has been open long enough for me to trust that they wont be going bankrupt any time soon and where the prices are still affordable for me until I get the first few clients.
wozzym
i would suggest more of a vps for that. You get more space, e.t.c. to work with.
Jetteh22
Yeah, I was looking into that too. But I noticed that just bumps the prices up just that much more.

Like.. What I might end up doing is going with Rewindd's Billy Reseller Hosting package..

Right now it's on sale until the end of the month, so that I would be paying $5 / month...

It comes w/ 20,000 MB and unlimited data transfer.

If I sell the accts starting at $3 for each 1GB(1000mb)/10GB they wont.

So in essence, I would sell until I reach the maximum for that server. It would end up being about 20 cleints (or less, if a client wanted more space/bandwidth).

I would then purchase an additional reseller acct and continue with that one. After a while (prolly a long while) I could end up w/ a few hundred dollars extra spending money.

Actually some companies offer VPS' for only $10-$15/month with 10gb disk and 100gb bandwidth. That vps is good if you aren't overselling.
Jetteh22
Yeah but that would defeat the purpose, having me to make more than double the clients to get a good amount of extra cash.

If I were paying $10 a month for a VPS w/ 10GB/100GB and i sold them at $3 per 1GB/10GB that would give me 10 clients or $30 dollars / month. With my costs deducted I would only have $20 / month extra per each VPS I had
sclek
Well... there are some vps companies that allow you to make a custom vps. Like you create the plan and stuff.

Go with [EastSolid]. I have been with them for a fair amount of time and I love the service - and the plans.

Their megaplans are really nice for re-seller accounts. 1 TB of bandwidth per month is sweet.
Brandon
I would just get an VPS or have a master reseller smile.gif

If you start to get big more customers then move onto a dedi....

Someone proberly already said this tongue.gif

Yeah, but their largest one is $60.99/month. For that much you might as well get a dedicated server or a high-end vps.
