I started out with PHPNuke for one site I was playing with. Then for another, I decided to checkout Joomla. Now, just before embarking on my third site, I thought I'd ask other peoples opinion. So....

Which CMS do you prefer?
EMOruffino
Regular - Joomla!

E-commerce - Magento

Gaming Communities - CustomCMS

Indexing - Drupal

Thanks for the input EMOruffino.

Has anyone got an opinion on the MODx cms? I thought I might give it a go...

well, once the servers are stable again biggrin.gif

MODx looks pretty good. Movable Type also looks nice:

I hadn't come across that one before, thanks for the link smile.gif

Yes, I agree, it looks quite interesting, especially for bloggers. And with 42,000 + members in the forum, the support should be fantastic.

I might just have to dig a bit deeper onto that one wink.gif

Shame about the CGI though, I don't think they are supported here... are they?

shocked no one posted phpBB

version 3 is just .. fantastic.. the whole web 2.0 design which makes things bold a bit more than the latest designs, it has a, excellent admin control panel... don't even want to talk the profile because it has been so nicely made...

the templates ? wow you have millions out there because its SO simple to create one.. (overall_header.html / overall_footer.html plus the style.css file)

community ? they just have a little bit less than 300 000 members tongue.gif with over 2.4 million posts...

i moved to phpbb3 with ALL my sites because the php was simple to use, you can integrate so many things, there are million mods out there.... i mean, seriously, phpBB must be one of the most (if not the most) advanced cms ever made.

suggested !

I have used geeklog a little bit and I like it:

phpBB was made for a community. As a bulletin board aka forum. It was never made for a website and never shall be, though by people making MODifications for it, you can turn your phpBB into a website. But that does not mean it was made to be one.

I had trouble with MODx to be honest. I couldn't work it, just like most CMS. Joomla! and Mambo (which are the same damn thing, just different name) are crap in terms of user-friendliness. They're just too hard to use. Also, I like screwing around with the raw HTML and CSS of my site. You don't get that when using CMS'

this applies only for phpbb1 and phpbb2

Go to phpBB forums and lookout the phpbb3, you will be impressed on how is the phpbb3 used, most of the people install phpbb than get the portal, many many templates are made to work on the portal aswell.

Mod is not the only thing that modify the basic 'forum' to a full website, the new features on bb3 are made for websites, everything was made to be applied to a website, and since i did not update my self on phpbb for the past month the latest featur is Download, check it out and tell me if its only for a forum.

I seriously think phpbb3 is more over a cms than a basic forum.

I use phpBB3 lol. I just can't find the Portal download nor am I good at modding phpBB anyway. Besides, I stand by what I said. The Portal is MODIFICATION. If it were built-in to phpBB then it'd be different. But it's NOT, you have to download it and MOD phpBB.

Also, I would consider WordPress more of a CMS than phpBB. Because you can create pages on that. I would also consider IPB and vBulletin CMS' because you can put Portals on them too. In fact, IPB is more CMS-like because it COMES with one.
