Full Version: Technical Question About The Tos

Well, two questions I guess.

1) The first is about the email systems in the ToS being a free service provided either by Zymic or by something called the System?

QUOTE
1. SERVICE DESCRIPTION

Zymic.com currently provides users with access to a selection of resources, including free web hosting, use of our nameservers, free server space, free data transfer, free email and personalized content, through its network (the "System").

...etc etc

2) The second is about charging for membership to a site. I didnt see anything about it in the ToS (unless of course it is for an illegal scam, etc). Am I allowed to set up a members thing, with a charge to become a member?

//EDIT
3) And how about charging for downloads?
Andrew
The free email might have been something that they offered when they first opened but for the whole time I've been here (8 months) they haven't offered any free email. To get email you have to pay Jack a one time fee of $10 for use of the php mail() function. Jack has said that sometime in the future he will offer the ability to have your own email address ( you@username.server.com ) but I wouldn't look for that too soon.

As for charging for a membership I don't see any issues with that as long as it doesn't violate the TOS in any way (as you've already stated) but i'll let an Admin reply if he feels this is wrong. Maybe you could give more information about it so they know whether or not it's an issue.

And your third question seems related to number two. Please note that Zymic is not to be used as a file host. I haven't heard official word about it, but I think as long as your downloads aren't your main source of traffic it would be fine. But again I will let an admin correct me if I'm wrong.

Well, i have put alittle thought into what I would charge for, if anything. But, I would like a nice side-income and the 'net seems like a good place to set it up without too much hassle. I have researched extensively into the legality ( and illegality) of get rich quick schemes and the like.

However, I have no intentions of creating a matrix or pyramid scheme or anything that creates the false pretense of "getting more cash back than what you placed into it".

My current idea is to make a low-cost site that checks out other such sites to report scams to the general public. I am thinking about a one-time fee to join, and you get a lifetime access to all the listed scam site, real sites etc. Donations will be accepted to cover the cost of entering the sites to discover the quality of them.

For the most part the idea is a dream, one that I cannot realize due to my own limited time, the investment I would have to risk (unless covered by the members) and my limited coding knowledge (Php is still giving me headaches...grrr! Html I am fine with though.)

Just a little idea for maybe the future, why not offer free "VIP (or payed status, whatever you want to call it)" to the first XXX number of users that signup, that way you can get a member base going and not have others calling your site a scam or whatnot. I mean you have to have content for people to pay for, and what better content can you get than from your own community.

This may or may not work, I guess I'm not really grasping what your trying to do here, but it's just an idea.

I know a bit of php myself, and there are other members (like swordz) who have only been learning for a few months and are far more advanced than I could imagine myself being. And then the god of php on the forums (as I like to think of him tongue.gif ) bread. We are all willing to help you out if you have any issues getting things working, just post in the PHP category here.

it's a good idea, but I cant really set up a site for this unless I already have a solid foundation of scam sites and real sites already checked out. so like I said, it probably wont come to fruition. If i do have any php questions, be sure that i will ask.
