Its been awhile since I made a layout...

So decided to make a wordpress layout. Why? Because wordpress have suddenly become very popular.. biggrin.gif

Anyways, I combined features of grunge and magazine styles that I liked. Its not finished yet, since its a Wordpress theme, I still need to make the single page layout for it...

But...if anyone's interested in buying it, I'll send it to you. And since its not coded, you can turn it into a normal web layout if you don't like wordpress rolleyes.gif (j/k doubt anyone would want to buy this...lol)

AND here's the layout!! (I scaled it down from its original size 1000x960)

The only thing I don't like is the sidebar navigation.. Guess I should fix it up a bit

Here are my past few layouts...so did I improve?? wink.gif

You are not allowed to use tutorials and sell the outcome results. This is a very popular tutorial found on PSDTuts. Why do you try to say you created something which you obviously havent.

Also i am going to tell you for your own benefit . Using tutorials to create a layout and then tryn to sell it as your own is breach of copyrights. You do not have permission to claim this as your own creation and thus have the you dont have tje right to sell it. Also its a bit stupid posting this when PSD tuts is the most popular photoshop blog and website on the internet . LOL .

The tutorial can be found here for those wanting to know http://psdtuts.com/tutorials/interface-tut...design-with-it/

Aslo before you say i only used it as a basis it doesnt matter you used the tutorial and may have just changed a few things. The principle still stands. I wouldnt like it and certainly you wouldnt if i copied your work then tried to sell it.

Anyways nice job with the template. As far as i can tell looks very professional and did a pretty good job at recreating the layout.

Ripping layouts these days is very easy to do, some times people even get away with it, but once you get caught every graphic designer looks at you differently.

I've done my fair share of tutorials and have even used techniques I've learned from tutorials in layouts, I'm sure colin and any other graphic designer has. But the difference is using something you learned, and then using someone else's work. This is a blatant rip and you should honestly be ashamed. I under stand the frustration of wanting to be as great as everyone else. But cheating isn't going to get you there. Not in anything.

Create your own layout next time, I might be inclined to help you improve it, but in no circumstance will I help you improve a blatant rip....

lol i wasn't serious about the selling. Thats why i put the j/k in parenthesis..

and did i say i created it? Just said I made it which I did. And I didn't know you're suppose to say you used a tutorial and such..but I'll keep that in mind

and uh isn't ripping mean you just copy and paste into PS? If yes than I didn't rip...this took me like 4-5 hours..

But, anyways, got any suggestions on how to improve this so it doesn't appear to be a "ripoff"??
k.digennaro
Well first off you mentioned selling it and regardless if you put j/k in parenthesis it doesn't matter. Next time don't put it in at all.

When people submit a design for C&C most of the time it's because they created it from scratch and want feed back on it....

Ripping to me could mean you copy and pasted it, or you recreated it, either way.

4-5 hours for a tut? That's a hell of a long time son.

And no I'm not going to give you suggestions so you can make it not look like a rip off. It is a riff off. And asking for suggestions on how to make it look less like a ripoff just tells me you don't care.

Next time you submit a design for C&C state all the facts about the design. If it's a tut it's okay just state that, then instead of asking for ways to make it look less like a rip, ask for ways to improve whats already there.......

I personally would like to see this thread closed... these kinda posts cause way to much commotion on the forum...
iamandy
Well.. you didn't create this, you just recreated it from a tutorial thus, its not your own work. I'm pretty sure theres a rule about this..
Andrew
Kevin is right, the mention of accepting payment for it in your message gives the wrong impression. Someone might think you were serious and offer you money.

I understand using tutorials, I myself do from time to time, but I don't claim the work as my own. If you want to use tutorials in the future just say "Hey I created this from this tutorial, think I did a good job?" or something similar.
Tsuna
Okay just gonna post one last thing to defend myself than feel free to close this thread again..

First thing is that I'm not a web designer like you guys, I just make layouts for fun. So I wouldn't know the specifics about these copyrights you've been talking about. Sorry

And yes it took me 4-5 hours because

1) its my third layout ever
2) I didn't read the entire tutorial, just looked at the image and improvised.

The reason I asked for help to change it was because I did want to improve it, just chose the wrong words..

And I re-read the site and found this:

http://psdtuts.com/about/write-a-tutorial/

QUOTE
If the tutorial is accepted:

* you grant a license to readers to use the knowledge and demonstrated effects shown in the tutorial in their own projects without reference to yourself, Envato or this site. They may not reproduce the tutorial itself, but they can use the techniques you teach.
* you grant a license to Envato to be the exclusive publisher of the tutorial online. You may republish extracts online – for example on your own site – however the tutorial in its entirety should not appear elsewhere. You may also republish the tutorial offline in any way you wish – e.g. sell it to a magazine, submit it to a book.
* you consent to the full tutorial, extracts, samples or examples from it appearing in other Envato sites, products and services.

I kept the colors the same because I liked it and same with the featured section. I did change several things to my liking, like the background (not completely the same), content area, and sidebars, etc...

So yeah just wanted to say that. Feel free to close this thread again...

Again sorry for the trouble caused
k.digennaro
If it was an honest mistake you don't need to defend yourself.

As for the copyrights, you really need to pay more attention to them, could get your self into legal trouble..

That's wrong. If it was an honest mistake and he's being judged as a ripper, ect, then he should defend himself.
By not responding at all, or just saying "oops, sorry" would make me think that he -was- trying to sell it.

That doesn't mean you can sell the layout, it means you can -use the techniques- you learned in the tutorial to re-write your OWN version of the tutorial and then SELL the -tutorial-.
Jenie
Your design is really cool! I like the template. Its very modern and the layout is very clean. Nice job!

actually i think that part's for the person submitting the tutorial, not for the reader..

anyways i just made a new layout from complete scratch. I'll post it up in a bit for you guys to see...hopefully i don't get labeled as a copier or ripper this time wacko.gif

I certainly did not call you a ripper neither did the rest of us. But one thing we all are saying is read the copyrights before you do something stupid and land yourself in to trouble. Dont mention selling a design that isnt yours. Even if you mention selling it in a kind of laidback way.

Anyway looking foward to seeing the new design. If its anything near as good as the previous one then i will have a big smile on my face laugh.gif
k.digennaro
Looking forward to seeing your design as well. No hard feelings about the layout, just don't want to see you get in trouble for it if it was an honest mistake.

-Kevin

P.S. Jenie read the freaking post before you post lmao your comment is so random and out of place there lol
Andrew
