Making a big issue out of global warming is lame. Notice that the only people who talk about it are journalists and not engineers. As a civil engineer with years of experience, I can guarantee that it's the huge issue the media tries to fool people into thinking. Nature has it's way of fixing itself. 15 years ago, people used to nag about damage in ozone layer. Then the ozone layer fixed itself. All "global warming" will do is move seasons a bit and do some shifting in ecosystems/weather from area to area. For example in countries on the Mediterranean coast, summers will get hotter and winters will get colder.
Note that I don't live in the US so I don't know what is happening there. But what I said above is very accurate in the rest of the world.

Global Warming is a dramatically urgent and serious problem. Programmable thermostats will automatically lower the heat or air conditioning at night and raise them again in the morning. They can save you $100 a year on your energy bill.
Unless you like live in Alaska and like to keep your house at 120 degrees Celsius. Although I think the cost of your energy bills would be the least of your issues in that situation.
But seriously, that sounds like a good idea unless you wake up freezing at 3am like I occasionally do (and yet I live in Florida, weird). I can definitely see the advantages of that though.

I hate to debate this, however, I just cant let this conversation go.
Alright its not all about the Earth, there are stars out there. The Universe is expanding every second. That leaves the the planets cold and isolated. At some point we will meet another Ice age, its highly possible, and highly possible its going to move us away from the sun. Thus in about maybe 1000 years or so when the Sun turns into a Red Giant we will already be pretty far away and frozen up. SO when the sun turns to a red giant, Earth will restore to a Balanced temperature planet.

Being an Australian, I need to point out that it has not been any hotter here than 7-8 years ago. The summers are still hot and the winters are still cold, but nothing out of the ordinary. Sure there are some odd days but there is nothing substantially weird.
In case some of you did not know, we are either in (or coming up to) an El Niņo. Which can cause some crazy weather.

I like how I started this a year ago and its still going...
I personally think that Climate Change is real, and I agree that it is a natural occurrence for Earth that has happened before, but I also think that the rate at which is occurring is faster because of human's misuse of Earth. There are more environmentally friendly ways to do mostly everything, except maybe logging seeing how that is entirely not environmentally friendly, and I dont see the harm in at least trying more environmentally friendly and usually more efficient methods.
Its hard to argue against human's negative effects on Earth's level of pollution.

Definitely exists. I' ve seen the effects when visiting places in rural China and India that are so badly affected by it. You can feel the pollution in the air and see the effect on plants and animal life. Farmers too they have it bad with farms that used to grow tropical plans (areas where lots of rain) are now being forced to grow more arid plants (because the area is now really hot and gets like 1 rainfall a year).
People who deny it either haven't seen the real effects or just don't want to believe it cuz it means we may have to change the way we consume.

The Arctic ocean is warming up, icebergs are growing scarcer and in some places the seals are finding the water too hot, according to a report to the Commerce Department yesterday from Consul Ifft, at Bergen, Norway.
Reports from fishermen, seal hunters and explorers, he declared, all point to a radical change in climate conditions and hitherto unheard-of temperatures in the Arctic zone. Exploration expeditions report that scarcely any ice has been met with as far north as 81 degrees 29 minutes. Soundings to a depth of 3,100 meters showed the gulf stream still very warm.
Great masses of ice have been replaced by moraines of earth and stones, the report continued, while at many points well known glaciers have entirely disappeared. Very few seals and no white fish are found in the eastern Arctic, while vast shoals of herring and smelts, which have never before ventured so far north, are being encountered in the old seal fishing grounds.

More co2 = faster plant growth(It's airborne plant food). Now the environmental population controllers want to take it away and starve us to death.

Global warming is a very real threat to us. Even as more people are beginning to realize the threat that global warming is; it is absolutely unacceptable that the governments across the globe have failed to reach any sort on consensus.
Here is an an article that explains some of it

No, not lame.
I'm an civil engineer/environmental engineer. I've done projects in over 12 countries including projects with the US army board of engineers and I make over half a million dollars a year. I think I know whether there is global warming or not. And there isn't any.
Just because something scientifically possible doesn't mean it happened. Big bang theory is valid. It can happen. It could have happen. But it simply didn't happen.

LOL. OK dude, you're a rich engineer therefore you should know about climate. Whatever you say. There is no global warming. All those nations that signed the Kyoto Accord are full of crap. THe IPCC, winner of the Nobel Prize, is full of crap. The polar icecap are doing just fine. The documented increases in global temeratures over the 20th century are a complete fabrication. Whatever you say.

yes i agree with this point that global warming is increasing day by day.and the responsible of people itself.their life style changes day by day people want more luxurious life for that industries are working and producing to much waste which effect our environment.glaciers are melting and temperature is suddenly increase.

QUOTE(aussiemcgr @ Dec 20 2008, 05:34 PM)

Quite an interesting thing going on in the US right now. As most of the country is getting snow and in ice storms, Florida seems to be having a heat wave of sorts.
Based on today's temperatures...
The north part of the US is ranging around -23 to 23 degrees Fahrenheit (Oregon to Maine)
the middle part of the US is ranging around 2 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit (Arizona to Virginia)
the south part of the US is ranging around 50 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit (Texas to South Carolina)
and central Florida (where I live) is currently around 84 degrees Fahrenheit
Obviously, there is something weird going on, seeing how it is in the mid 80s halfway through winter...
Melbourne, Australia is expecting a high of 86 degrees Fahrenheit today...in the middle of Summer.
Never should any part of the US and Australia be having the same temperature considering season differences.
After thinking about that, I realized that the birds never actually migrated down to Florida this year. I sort of want to know where they went. Birds hate freezing cold and hot weather, so they must be somewhere around the border of Florida and Georgia to get the comfortable weather.
I've always sort of believed in the idea of global warming, but I think this is a pretty good example for the skeptics.
Global warming absolutely does not exist. During the Mesozoic era, the Earth had temperatures usually found in Amazon rain forest. This had a great effect on the Gargantua cold-blooded reptiles living in that period. The temperatures fell 65 million years ago due to a global catastrophe. I believe that the earth is just adjusting back to its original temperatures .
