Quite an interesting thing going on in the US right now. As most of the country is getting snow and in ice storms, Florida seems to be having a heat wave of sorts.

Based on today's temperatures...
The north part of the US is ranging around -23 to 23 degrees Fahrenheit (Oregon to Maine)
the middle part of the US is ranging around 2 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit (Arizona to Virginia)
the south part of the US is ranging around 50 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit (Texas to South Carolina)
and central Florida (where I live) is currently around 84 degrees Fahrenheit

Obviously, there is something weird going on, seeing how it is in the mid 80s halfway through winter...
Melbourne, Australia is expecting a high of 86 degrees Fahrenheit today...in the middle of Summer.
Never should any part of the US and Australia be having the same temperature considering season differences.

After thinking about that, I realized that the birds never actually migrated down to Florida this year. I sort of want to know where they went. Birds hate freezing cold and hot weather, so they must be somewhere around the border of Florida and Georgia to get the comfortable weather.

I've always sort of believed in the idea of global warming, but I think this is a pretty good example for the skeptics.
Paradoks
lol. that is pretty observant of you.
Andrew
It has been unusually hot all month. It's REALLY PISSING ME OFF. I hate hot weather, and I live in Southwest Florida. I look forward to winter every year because of the cold, I like opening the windows and letting the house chill out, but this year I've had the AIR CONDITIONER on. In DECEMBER ffs. Mother nature needs to get off her period and get stuff back on track.
Paradoks
wow. That was a tad bit harsh... but its cold as FUCK in california right now biggrin.gif and californias weather is the wierdest... TRUST ME... it goes from 90 degree weather to 50 degree weather in ONE DAY. then it goes back up to 80

lol.... yeah global warmings a bittttchhh

BTW: the big as hole in the ozone is RIGHT on top of australia
Andrew
And FYI i just wanted to mention, that it's not any hotter than the normal temp apparently.
Yesterday, 12/20/2008 in FORT MYERS, FL
High Temperature: Actual: 77°F
Normal: 76°F
Record: 94°F

Sooo, global warming isn't happening. It's all a hoax.

Ya, Australia and Space dont seem to interact well...

Generally where I live (Rochester, somewhat upstate New York), we've had weather around 50-60 degree one day and the next day we get hit by harsh snow storm. It's really awkward.

AH!! SHIT!! RUN!!

Oh, wait, false alarm. That was a movie, my bad people.

(btw, that guy on the right looks awful happy considering he's about to get taken out by a giant fricken wave)
Paradoks
Lmfao, hes about to shake his friends hand... its like he doesnt notice whats going on.. then out of no where hes dead ohmy.gif sucks... haha.
aussiemcgr
Son of a Bitch! Yesterday the temperature down here in Florida was mid 80s, today the high is 51... Why God?!?!?!? I liked the warm weather! sad.gif
Bogey
lol... that's becuase you accused the earth for global warming.

But I disagree... It has being extremely cold in Kansas... going from -2 F to 20 F... very windy too... very cold wind. I would say an ice age is looming in the future biggrin.gif
aussiemcgr
well tomorrow it will be in the mid 70s, and it will be the mid 80s on Christmas. Gona build me some snowmen!
Paradoks
LMFAO... if you need help. holler at me biggrin.gif
aussiemcgr
Its the sort of thing I'm going to approach by just hoping it all works out.
Jetteh22
Ausdsie... Hot one day, cold the next in Florida is due to something we call "cold waves" or something.. Watch the weather channel, they'll tell you when the next one is coming.

I haven't noticed any difference in Florida weather, really.
Paradoks
who asked your opinion anyways? kidding :] lol. yeah bottom line global warming is really not happening right now, and only affecting australians. but. have you built the snowman yet? pictures plz xD haha.
aussiemcgr
ya I had the picture, but I named it yard.snow for some stupid reason, and the computer thought I wanted to make it a snow extension... I'll get another one.
iamandy
bring on global warming, i bloody hate cold weather!
Paradoks
haha aight. im still waiting up on that picture. lol

Global warming does not result in the whole world warming up, at first at least. You may have noticed (I'm nt sure if you all watch the news) that the weather has been taking extreme swings lately. In early December here in Missouri the temperature got to 62F around ten o'clock in the morning, and by 3'oclock it was 9F. We also had tornadoes in December, which never happens here (our average December temperature is 34F). Weather Disasters (Wild Fires, Floods, Droughts, Tornadoes, Hurricanes, etc.) have been larger in numbers in recent years, as well as stronger. The 2005 Hurricane season for example, which by the end of we were naming hurricanes by the greek alphabet and the gulf coast seemed more like a wasteland than anything, was the busiest and longest we've ever had. Florida will have to wait a while for it's global warming, the effects will, and already have, started the poles, and creep toward the equator. Now, note that global warming is a natural process, but this time you have to throw the human element into the equation, and our tendency to ignore technological advances and burn just about anything that makes a thick black smoke for fuel, which of course when you burn fossil fuels, which are made up primarily of carbon, the carbon atoms combine with the oxygen ones in the air, making good old CO2. With carbon emissions on the scale the balance is tipped. We are going to experience a stronger than usual global warming period, followed by, the other side of the cycle, a stronger than usual Ice Age. The combination of these two very well could test humanity to it's breaking point, that being if we even make it to 2013 (Maya Calender End and Nostradamus Prediction).

Yes, we should act fast, because we are now entering the next cycle of global cooling, and it's going to be much harder to convince folks that the globe is warming when they are freezing to death.

I still remember when I was going to school in the late 1950's, the big media panic of the day was the coming Ice Age. Fact. And as late as the 1970's, the media moguls were all worried about something they called nuclear winter. Now it's global warming they are worried about.

The serious scientists (the ones more concerned with truth than they are with getting government grants or media publicity) tell us that nature works in cycles, that periodic warming and cooling of the planet is a natural phenomenon caused by the cyclic warming and cooling of the Sun. Look, the polar ice cap of the planet Mars has been shrinking during the same time that earth was in a warming trend. Did CO2 emissions from automobiles cause that? Humanity isn't big enough to change weather patterns globally.

I was highly amused by the report of the eco-freaks who went on a tour of the Northern sea in the Arctic regions to get a last look at the polar ice cap, and got iced in. An icebreaker vessel had to be brought in to rescue them. It's a fact that green plants (on which all other earthly life depends) thrive on CO2 and global warming, and that the earth was once much warmer than it is now. Greenland, for instance, was once green! If it were possible for Mankind to cause global warming, I would be advocating it. Those who are in a panic over GW are being used as unwitting pawns of a budding dictatorship that wants to use this as an excuse to seize control over all human activity on earth.

Nature RUNS IN CYCLES, and the earth will keep spinning as it always has.
aussiemcgr
Ok, but lets look at the statistics over the past 50 years. In about 1950, Carbon Emissions increased substantially, at the same time, the overall Global Temperature increased just as substantially. As the Global Temperatures increases, the ocean temperatures increases. When the ocean temperatures increase, the polar ice caps begin to melt. When the polar ice caps melt, it dumps a significant amount of Freshwater into the Saltwater oceans. Now, the currents throughout the oceans rely on a particular balance of Freshwater and Saltwater. When more Freshwater gets dumped into the ocean, the Ocean Currents begin to break down. Additionally to the Ocean Currents changing, the overall water levels increase.

Now you say the Earth works in cycles, which are not influenced by Humanity. The different scares over time are still relevant. Those fears have not gone away. The next Ice Age, the Nuclear Winter, and whatever else there was, are all theories of what might happen as a result of Global Warming taking effect. We just now have a name for it.

As for the melting caps on Mars. That is because even Mars has seasons. The chemical make ups between Earth and Mars are too different to compare the results of the seasons. No, this is not a human thing. This is a natural occurrence on MARS, but Mars and Earth are not the same planets. What happens on one planet doesnt mean the same will happen on another.

"The statistics"... whose? The numbers gathered by pop-scientists who plot 2 or 3 lines on one small part of an oscillating curve that covers a few years, or the ones gathered by the real scientists who step back and look at the WHOLE picture, who gather ALL the available facts, not just the ones that conform to political correctness and therefore bring in juicy monetary grants and prestige from those who want excuses for seizing political power.

Man does influence climate locally. For instance, in places where large tracts of land are held in common, as in socialism or nomadic cultures, overgrazing takes place, because no one is responsible for good stewardship. Overgrazing causes warm updrafts that tend to drive rain clouds away, leading to desert formation. Land held privately tends to be better-cared-for, as people tend to take care of what they own. But the rain clouds don't just cease to exist. They move to where atmospheric conditions allow the rain to fall. If one part of the world gets hot and dry, another part will get cold and wet, to compensate. Overall, the mean global temperature is more affected by the temperature of the sun (which fluctuates in cycles, and cycles-within-cycles) than by activities of man. During the 80's and 90's, the sun was in a warming cycle. Now it has entered a cooling cycle.

As for Mars, yes, I know about the seasons. Over the solar warming period, its polar ice cap was shrinking OVERALL, during a span of many Martian years.. The sun, unlike Man, affects ALL the planets. including Mars.

As for the polar ice caps on earth, it seems that they are rebounding again. Since water expands as it freezes, ice floats. Some alarmists have worried that melting the ice cap will raise the level of the oceans. Try putting an ice cube in a glass of water, and mark the level of the water. Wait for the ice cube to melt. How much does the water level rise? Answer: ZERO. because the volume of the water shrinks as the ice melts.

I repeat: global warming is a hoax designed to panic people into giving up their freedom.

Global Warming is the increase of earth's temperature. And it really affects our environment. So better do something to prevent it.

Interestingly enough, its been raining almost non-stop in Central Florida since May 18th... Not even Hurricane season yet. If we are getting this sort of weather now, I cant imagine how "fun" hurricane season will be...
TradeYourAsset
In some tropical areas, they're actually experiencing weird seasons that only middle countries could experienced, just like hale storm. I could say global warming attributes to this weird climate.
aussiemcgr
a show on Discovery Channel said we should be seeing massive effects from the ice caps by 2013...

After Going through the whole thread and conversations only one question pop up in mind....
Everybody is telling we have to do something and have to act but just wanna ask who is taking what measures to stop this global warming??
sweetbride202
We can prevent global warming if we know how to make use of or environment and we know how to conserve electricity.

Al Gore has just pulled a huge Jonathan Swift and we all fell for it. Nicely done.
Dave Reckoning
What-- is Al Gore smart enough to "pull a Jonathan Swift"?

Someday people will look back on today's global warming panic and wonder, just as we (who lived through it and are old enough to remember) can now look back at the ice age panic of the 1950's, when young people (who never lived through the previous weather cycle) were saying, "It's colder than it's ever been! Someone ought to do something about it!" Man just isn't big enough to control the weather.

It makes good sense to use resources wisely, and not waste the riches that God has put on this earth. But saving or wasting electricity will not add or subtract one-tenth of one degree to the overall temperature of the earth. Check it out. There are plenty of responsible scientists on the internet who will explain it to anyone who will stop panicking long enough to listen and read.

And putting politicians in charge of regulating energy use will guarantee maximum waste and inefficiency in energy usage, just as it historically does in nearly every other field of human activity.

When I see Al Gore and his rich "liberal" friends riding bicycles instead of limos I might start giving them credit for at least being sincere.

haha aussiemcqr, that was "The Day After Tomorrow". It was portrayed as a serious movie, but so much of it was pure crapola. I especially liked the part about how it was so cold that concrete was freezing and cracking, yet those two dudes were sleeping in a tent and trapsing accross the countryside.

Anyways, my own observations about the effects of climate change. Living in Toronto, I have noticed the following consistent changes over the last 20-25 years.

1. Spring comes earlier than it used to. At the same time spring as a season is shorter.
2. Fall comes a little later, and there is less variation in the color of the leaves, more leaves just look dead or burnt in the fall.
3. Winter doesn't seem as cold, but on average there is more snow, and it lasts longer.

there is no doubt global warming is hitting our loving earth in no time. we can all se how the global temperature is rising. you dont need to to go further, just look around where you live. let alone the rising of sea level, can you not feel how hot the summer is being? i am getting fed up of this heat, and i just want to ask the naturalists one question, 'Whats the point of shouting against global warming if you can't actually do anything?'

All you can do is do what you can, it's better than doing nothing at all. Lots of people are taking that approach. Some people will never be convinced, so you can't spend your time worrying about them, or waiting for them to get on board.

The earth has an innate ability to heal itself, if we give it half a chance.

There are so many who are crying over the issue of global warming but there are very few who are serious and are taking necessary precautions. Congress needs to enact new laws that cap carbon emissions and require polluters pay for the global warming gases that they produce. Send a message to your elected officials, letting them know that you will hold them accountable for what they do -- or fail to do -- about global warming.

I remember a few years back when the Bush government rejected the Kyoto Accord. Shortly after, a number of states started acting on their own to reduce emissions, rather than fall in line with the feds. I thought that was pretty cool.
