Pease do not steal my website ideas. I tend to put alot of thought into these ideas and would appreciate people not just taking them. I know it's not against the law to steal and idea and do it before someone else, but it's just immoral. I will post on here if I decide not to do this website and if/when that happens, feel free to steal the idea all you like. smile.gif

Sometimes I get some crazy ideas for websites that I think would work out pretty good. I always want to make things free w/ paid additions to the free service (but still have other ways for free users to receive the additions, with a little work). This way, more people would use it. If it got to the point where any certain site became -huge- then it might be a good idea to charge a lifetime membership fee of $5 per user w/ advanced features, and then have there be additional -cheap- paid additions for those who are looking for less work and more outcome.

It seems that most of my ideas (some of you probably have noticed this) are based around -unique- ways to advertise your site, things that I havn't heard of yet. I think I have figured out a good idea for another website, that would be a pretty unique way to advertise your website.

The above image is a collaboration of what are called "userbars", generally used by people to put in their forum signatures (and sometimes websites). They usually contain just information regarding the user, ect - this is to save space in forum signatures and loading time on forums and alot of people feel they just look nicer than big bulky signatures.

My idea?

Users can sign up for free. They sign up with a website and an image of a userbar (there will also be a downloadable program for users to easily create their own custom userbars). The image will have to follow exact dimensions, to ensure fair advertising. They enter some information and they get 1 free ad (IE 1 userbar). Users upload it and it is immediately entered into the ad database.

The user then receives a unique code in both HTML and BBC (I think that's what forum code is called hehe). This code will just be an image link which will link to say http://www.WebsiteName.com/clickthrough.php?id=#### where #### is the users ID. The image will simply be http://www.WebsiteName.com/current-ad-image.jpg.

Now... The "Current-Ad-Image.jpg" will automatically be changed every X minutes (probably 1 minute) via a server-side program which will go into the website and run a script that will change both the image and the current click-through ad...

So basically.. If I had it in my signature, it could show an ad for Google.

The userbar would be a Google ad. It would link to http://www.websitename.com/clickthrough.php?id=1 - But when you click it, it will take you straight to google.

Say you go back exactly 60 seconds later - It will now be an ad for Yahoo.

The userbar would be a Yahoo ad. It would STILL link to the SAME link, but when you click it, it will take you straight to Yahoo.

Get the point?

Now... To make it fair, so people couldn't just sign up and never place an ad on their forum signatures, and be receiving free ad-space, it would work like this...

For every time somebody clicks a userbar in YOUR signature, it would give you say.. 10 points.
Points can be used to do multiple things:
(these are example point pricing, will probably vary, but just for information purposes).

1) Add Another Month Of Advertising = 50 points (or 5 clicks).
2) Add Another Userbar Ad = 200 points (20 clicks).
3) Have X Ad Seen More Frequently = 500 points (50 clicks).

Ect, ect - Maybe have a section to advertise on the website itself through rotating text link for 100 points, or something.

Now, for people just looking to advertise, they can just pay for points.. Lets say... $0.01 / point.

So they get 1 Free Ad upon signing up. After 1 month, they would need to pay $0.50 for another month of service.. Obviously, that's not unreasonable at all. If they want to ad another userbar to the rotation, they would pay $2. If they want a certain ad to be seen more frequently they would need to pay $5.

All clicks would be registered once PER MONTH by IP Address - therefore resulting in only 1 unique click (per each account) per month. At the end of each month, IP's will be reset. This means that if you have the userbar in YOUR signature, a person can only click it ONCE (despite the ad) to give you 10 points. So if they click it every minute on your signature for a whole hour, you would only get 10 points, not 600.

But if they go happen across a different user and click on their signature because they're interested, that user would receive the point also.

I know it sounds kind of confusing, but I wanted feedback on the idea. I know it has it's ups and downs, but I think it's a pretty unique idea, and with forums being a huge thing now-adays, I think people would get alot of exposure.

I like it! I always get these strange low-profit site ideas, that i believe are not terrible, as well. I think it's a unique way of advertising... not completely new but the way you're doing it (through userbars) is. I think that it does have decent potential if done correctly. If you decide to go forth with this idea and you're lookin for design help and maybe some coding help, message me wink.gif I'd love to contribute to somethin like this. im me if you like. wink.gif

I remember when i use to create these animated ones. They were pretty cool.

My question is... you user is advertising... what is he getting for the ad ? What i use to do is put this bar and link it to my site or something. They obviously can't but what are they getting other than points ? other than extra ad on their bar ?

Pretty much anyone can find someone to make him a bar. Its not an issue, plus they can use your program to build it, since its HTML or BB they can remove the link. Boom they made a bar they just got to host it and boom.

I think you got to make them achieve something, certain status. Because i am guessing you will make money out of this ? i mean you are talking about google and yahoo... so they should get a status.... 1000 points ? you can choose a present... pencil or shirt (you can get affiliations with many people on the web for pins or again shirts) 5000 points ? give them something else... but make them think if they reach 50 000 points then they get and Ipod or something or something big...

So you know.... what they are here for is to advertise for you. So they keep the ad up and don't remove the link.

So let me get this correct, you want to create a site where you combine the idea of http://userbarmaker.com/ with http://www.megaclick.com/

You can generate userbars and submit it to publishers for a fee. Good idea. I like it. I think I still have a collection of these userbars somewhere on my old harddrive.

i found my userbar maker.... it was stashed away in my f drive.... i like it jetteh

Luke:
Thanks for the input and support. If I decide to go through with it I'll definately need help as there will be alot of backside coding and I'll want to make my own simple CMS for quick updates, ect. smile.gif

MrTouz:

The concept wouldn't be to be giving 'free stuff' away, but to be giving free advertising away. If they just sign up and then don't actually place the ad on their forum signature, their account would get cancelled due to inactivity. It would be similar to a banner exchange. All the user has to do is put it in his forum(s) signature(s) and post normallly like he does. The ad would show up to -anyone- who would be reading his forum posts (just like if you were reading this you would see the ad in my signature). For every time somebody clicks on his ad he gets points.. It costs points to renew the subscription for the next 30 days. This ensures that the user isn't just signing up and not helping out. Like a banner exchange you either 1 view for every time someone views your banner, or something similar. But it would go by points per click, instead of view for view.

For those people who don't even use forums, and don't have time to post around on forums, they can PURCHASE points to renew their subscription, get more advertising space, ect. This wouldn't be targeted to -huge corporate sites- like Yahoo and Google - I was just using them as a demo (since they're well known sites). They most definately wouldn't be part of the exchange.

I might implement a user of the month system with prizes or something, that would give incentive to post more on forums, ect, hoping for clicks. I won't be expecting to make much from those purchasing points, as that isn't what my idea is about. My idea is more about -free ways to advertise your site that would actually generate genuine (hopefully) traffice-.

Understand more now?

Shipon:

I think you misunderstood my post. I won't be selling userbars to corporations, or anything. The userbar maker would just be a feature of the site, a very basic feature, for those people who weren't good at graphics to the point where they could create a good looking, eye-catching userbar.

Thanks
Luke
You goin to develop it?
Jetteh22
Thinking about it. I don't have much free time as of now, but first thing first is I need to make a layout for it and I havn't got any kind of inspiration to do that lately tongue.gif
I might try to work on one tonight.
IamShipon1988
I wouldn't mind helping out. I think I have a userbar script lying around somewhere. Also Jetteh I am going to send you a PM regarding one of your old ideas. I would like to develop on it.
Jetteh22
If you have an online-userbar script that would be fantastic because the only one I have is an offline one. I could just add the option to -upload to user- or something to it.
sclek
That is an excellent idea! If you ever make it I this it will become huge.

Just to keep people updated: There is a project starting. We are not going to release much information until we get a beta out. We don't want to get the hype up like the nCMS project. We want this to be a success but are not 100% sure.

But if you are interested in learning about this project and/or want to join, feel free to PM me.
