so was wondering.....

for those of you who make web layouts for money. do you file taxes?? the reason is because i have yet to start doing this, so would like to know before i get started. i know that you get paid through paypal. so when you request the check/money, do you file income taxes at the end of the year? (only for those in US)

my first thought is you don't. but just want to make sure first... biggrin.gif

thanks

I'm from the UK, but it can't be that different...

I would suspect that if you're earning from designing, you would class as being self-employed. There's probably a minimum you have to earn as self-employed before you have to file taxes, but I'm not sure what it is.

Well, unoffically, no. I doubt whether anyone does.
There is also a minimum amount you have to make before the tax department will worry about it. In Australia is is $6000.

The article that kevin gave is a good one. I have been designing for over 35 years now and I have yet to file taxes for freelance work. I did however work with a professional software company and had to file taxes because I earned over the limit of $3500.

yes i know about filing taxes when working for a company.

i was just wondering about graphic designing..so bascially if its a freelance or self employed job, you don't file taxes..? even if you made over the limit set by your country?
Jacob
It's just like a trade of services. Just like you mowing someone's lawn for money. Just don't tell the tax department about it. Lol.
