I was just wondering, since it's been so long since I've worked around websites, but what is some popular news scripts that people use today? Or what do you guys recommend?

Most people these days just substitute WordPress.

I've heard a little about this WordPress here and there. I'm not real familiar with it. What exactly is it?

Its is a blog script and it basicly does your whole website...Its a CMS, I like it and use it for my site BUT if you only want a news script, the one I prefer and used to use is:

Another popular one is Cutenews:

I don't like cutenews because it puts a powered by cutenews under your news, and phpnews doesn't...

Alright cool. Yeah I remember the cutenews one. I'm not real fond of it either. For that wordpress (I just downloaded it to check it out), but for a news script on a portfolio site (http://www.rptest.zymichost.com), do you think it'd do the job pretty fairly?

I suggest you use wordpress for your whole site

Its very easy to use and you add all your content in browser, I prefer it to uploading all of mine...Joomla might be another thing to consider its just Joomla takes longer to get it customized

I love to use Wordpress for my main site as its quite useful.

Lol I know I'm asking a lot of questions, but this I think is my last.
If I wanted to use a template like this one: http://freelayouts.com/templates/Clean-and...en?preview=true

How could I do so? It looks as if it would work for wordpress page, as compared to the layouts listed in some of those links.

http://themes.wordpress.net/ is a large collection of nice looking themes, or google it

and the freelayouts one looks like a wordpress template, you just need to code it for wordpress I think...

The commas, quotes, apostrophes, and other non-HTML favorable characters are changed and a dash is put between each word. You can manually change this, maybe shortening it to "my-site-lookin-at-you-kid".

WP (WordPress) is the best by far...so easy and manageable.

actually i use xampp for my local testing...

What it is, is basically a webserver for you computer.

Install 3 simple batch files and then run the apache & mysql bat files and you have your own server with apache, PHP5 and mysql.

The zip comes with a readme, and it will tell you exactly whats what.

basically xampp makes your computer into a local webserver.

So i could install WordPress on my computer and use it to test out updates and styles before i put it on a LIVE webserver...

example:
