Wow...

Income tax returns piss me off to no extent..

I made 24k last year (2008) and am getting 1,001 back (plus a 300 stimulus payment, since I didn't receive a full stimulus last year).

My friend made 12k last year and she's getting 1,020 back...

Wtf?

We both claimed 0 on our W4 when we started.. I worked TWICE as hard, twice as much (hence why I made twice as much)..

Wtf?

It frustrates me that they don't give as much back if you make more...

It should be a flat X% back no matter how much you work... Her tax rate was 2.94% - Mine was 7.98%.. Why can't they both be 4% instead??

Grr..

Anyone else frustrated by the US tax system?

Well you have to note that the IRS also takes into consideration of the expenditure. This year I got a 1099 instead of the regular W2, and now I have to pay money. A 1099 is generally for those contract worker, which I am (so its suited I guess). You're lucky to get money back lol.

I got some kind of form in the mail recently... I have NFI how to do taxes

You most likely got a W2, Magnus.

Go to http://www.turbotax.com or http://www.hrblock.com - they both have free versions with free direct deposit within 8-14 business days (if you get money back).

Sorry it took so long, didn't realize anyone had replied!

Shipon - That would suck, to pay taxes. I'm glad I work.. I guess 1300 back is better than NONE, but I just think the tax system is so screwed up to where people who work less can end up getting more back in some cases because they made less. Just doesn't make any sense to me.

It should be a set percentage no matter how much you make. That way people who make less, pay less, make more, pay more.. But they'll have the money because it's always a set %.
