well.. i was having just the same problem before,,
First of all,,back to the creating database step:
1. Create a new database username.
2. Create a new user along with a secure password.
3. To complete the database you must assign the user with the database name. To do this you must use the "Assign Privileges" section.
------- section 3 is the most important thing! cuz u can't login to ur phpmyadmin account if u haven't done it.
---------- then just simply click the launch phpmyadmin button and type ur username that u've created before --> sreegans_ammugans

I got it working. Just make sure ur db and usernames are less than 15 chars in total...!
