Ok, so I have spent the last few hours pouring over the Search Function here and Google trying to find a resolve to my issue. So please don't jump down my throat for not searching or reading first. I admin for other msg boards, and I feel your pain.

I have all my attachment settings on the SMF message board well above the file sizes I am trying to upload. Any setting that allows no limit is set to no limit. My attachment folder setting is at 5000kb.

Most of my Google searches pertaining to SMF in general always directed me towards contacting the Server Admin and modifying the pHp info to increase the maximum upload size.

My search results here on the Zymic boards only yielded discussions about very large files, 20mb+ ... Threads below.

However, I am only trying to upload files in the 100kb-500kb range. I don't see why they would be too large? or take too long?

When I first launched the SMF board, I tested the attachment function under the default settings. I uploaded 2 images, with thumbnails, and they worked fine. I could view them in the file manager, etc.. The very next post, without modifying settings, told me the maximum file size is too large?

So with hours and hours spent over the last few days, trying to modify the settings and find answers, here I am. Most resources tell me its on the Server side, however I think it might have to do with my novice knowledge of pHp settings.

I understand Zymic is not a file storage site, for webmasters only. However, the images I would like to upload as attachments will stay very small and I feel that I can easily stay within a reasonable amount of MB storage (20mb?) ... I was going to work with JPGs only with a maximum 800x800 pixel size, or 500kb, to save space.

Do I need to install a pHp script? Shown here...

This is one of the solutions I've found, but I am not sure if it pertains to my situation. Also the .htaccess functions may or may not have been disabled? So before I attempt to do so, I would greatly appreciate any advice going forward.

Thank you all for your time,

Miles

More Info:

Also it was noted that for no reason, a bunch of my pHp files quit working correctly, and I had to re-upload them. All of these;
require_once($sourcedir . '/QueryString.php');
require_once($sourcedir . '/Subs.php');
require_once($sourcedir . '/Errors.php');
require_once($sourcedir . '/Load.php');
require_once($sourcedir . '/Security.php');

The board was not functional until I re-uploaded those files via FTP.

It was also noted that I attempted to upload an image resizing package, only to find out the zlib option is disabled. Msg below.

Sorry, your PHP configuration doesn't have support for zlib. Without this, the package manager cannot function. Please contact your host about this for more information.

Now In the package settings I also attempted to change the file writing permission. However, I already chmod'ed all of the recommended files to code 777 so they are writable, upon SMF installation. However, when I used FileZilla to look at file permissions, many of them are value 644. Which files do I need to change to 777, if any?

I am assuming package installs via Zymic are not allowed. Here is the error msg I get there;

Some of the files the package manager needs to modify are not writable. This needs to be changed by logging into FTP and using it to chmod or create the files and folders. Your FTP information may be temporarily cached for proper operation of the package manager.

and I also can't login to the FTP server via the SMF request above.. but I think its just because I haven't taken the time to fill in the fields with the appropriate info - no need to waste my time if this is a dead end, too.

Thanks again!

Miles
