This is where i get stuck ........It was not possible to write the configuration file. Alternative methods for this file to be created are presented below. You may download the complete config.php to your own PC. You will then need to upload the file manually, replacing any existing config.php in your phpBB 3.0 root directory. Please remember to upload the file in ASCII format (see your FTP application documentation if you are unsure how to achieve this). When you have uploaded the config.php please click “Done” to move to the next stage.
But when i click done it does nothing...its like its stuck or something.

When you upload the files don't upload them to the /pbpbb folder, just upload them directly to your root directory. Problem solved.

You have to tell us what you did to get these errors. It's frustrating to try and figure out exactly what you are doing to cause these errors. I can only guess that you moved the files of your ACTIVE forum to a different directory?

You might want to check if you have the right username for the database. I had that same problem with my database until I noticed that when I created my user, the username also included some numbers and an underscore in front of it, such as 129484_<username>. You can find the username under database management.

Ok guys here's what i did:
I deleted the database and started over, i set the database name, username and password as so, then i uploaded my files again and set their permissions but i set permission for config.php 666 instead and in the installation screen i didn't fill in the localhost and it worked!
Lol thanks for the time guys, and here's my feedback to the problem too!^^

Hi There,
i was following tutorial steps until "Go to
http://YOURSITE.YOURHOST.com/phpbb/, and click INSTALL:" untill i got 404 page not found.
Strange thing is that HTACCESS file are gone in filezilla. Is it because they are hidden?
Please help!!
Many Thanks
I got this exact some issue, I tried the other way that was suggested. It's still not working. What's up with that.

A tip for people with the "access denied, password (YES)" problem? Use your own password, not the one for the board. That's what worked for me. :/ After 2 hours of going it solo. And don't fill in the local hostname thing, or the port.

Thanks Qub1,
I finally got around to installing phpBB v3.0.7 PL1 as your tutorial nearly almost accurately steps one through (it's the "over the course of time things change", such as is the case of Zymics Updating of the "ftp user" as of August 2009).
Step 16 gave me the only problem and that was with the "
Database Name:", "
Database Username:" (fortunately having written the
Basic Navigational HTML/CSS Website ... tutorial I realized that the information was in the "
ftp user" information for the "
Database name:" so I simply reviewed the information back in my Zymic Control Panel - Assign Privileges (Step 10) for the proper "
Database Name:" (without the " .* " at the end of "phpbb.*") and "
Database Username:" (utilizing the numerical sequence in the stead of my "ftp user")
Having never seen one of these modern (GUI) Bulletin Board Services from behind the scenes as an admin, I realize now that it's a circa 1986 WILDCAT! BBS (ahh, the early days, sigh!) with modern conveniences, looks like I might be getting a taste of PHP before learning what I'm doing with HTML/CSS and JS/JSQuery

(lookout I've got a

now (

) ).
It'll take a while to get up to speed with this baby.
Thanks again Qub1, I would have been lost without this tutorial and Thank you Zymic (Jack) for allowing such a wonderful feature to enhance my web design.

You forgot to set the permissions between the database user and the database.
