I am going to be setting up a gaming social network, as a social network would do it'll have all the general stuff like user profiles, photo uploads, blogs etc. But since it is a GAMING social network I am wondering if you guys can help me think of some ideas to make it more gamer friendly and make it seem more like a gaming community and not just some random social network?

find some magical way to make user's profiles show what games they are currently playing...kind of like how xfires profiles work and than get a button that reads "join (name here)'s game" and find another magical way to make that launch the game that they're playing and than join that server!

The first thing you should create attractive user's profile and provide members with some free games.
If you get the good results and when a social network is build then start the new things and ideas.
You can also try with other site also.
Provide some attractive gifts to the winners so that the interest will increased to be a part of the network.

Most of what is said is already on other sites.
To be able to break into a niche like gaming you need to be unique.
Try to think of a unique idea, searched alot that you can conquer.

Ok, make the entry to your site more interesting. make a page that will appear first in your site. Put some very easy mind game or visual trick game in it. The user who wins it, enters the site, and the one who doesn't win is challenged by a similar but easier game before entering the site.

would it be more of a casual space, hardcore, or everything? A good example of one is http://gamefriends.com , but I still prefer to use FB and myspace

Put a chat on your site with more rooms:one general and rest one for every category and propose subjects in the maxim audience hours.
