hi, I'm interested in finding out how i can improve the layout and presentation of my website. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what I might need to study to find out how to do so

Please refrain from bumping posts in this section.

Generally when it comes to template design on Photoshop or Fireworks, I just go around and observe other peoples template. You can do that here. If I like the design, I first create a mimic of the template just to see if I can pull that off. Then I start ripping out pieces and adding my own touch to them. But I do my best to stay away from stealing the template as I have no rights over them. I modify the template to a point where it is not like the other. Also from time to time, if I like two designs, I combine those two to make one and then of course modify it to my liking.

When it comes to coding, I go to websites such as DynamicDrive for cool effects I can add to my templates. If it suits my template, I implement it with the clients/visitors in mind.

ok thanks. i understand that. i just meant is there any kind of software that one can use. or maybe a language that takes a page from plain text to something... fantastic.

Again, it really depends on what you want out of the site. If you want a website that is vector based and high in quality (graphics wise), then I would say go use Adobe Fireworks. If you want something grungy or collage type, then use Adobe Photoshop. When it comes to coding, I generally use OxygenXML for it's simplicity and features. It allows the most flexibility and ease in my opinion. When it comes to language, php allows you to store data with ease, HTML and CSS are generally for layout attraction, whereas Javascript is used to display script effects (such as dropdowns).
