In any case, if it had been a British, Canadian, or Australian spelling, I would have probably already been aware of it. I have a keen eye for such differences between the various versions of English. (Although that doesn't stop my foreign friends from surprising me on occasion.

Not to mention that most non-US spellings consist of
more letters, not
less. (e.g. wagon (US), vs. waggon (UK))
