Hi All, I am new to this forum and quite new to HTML. I don't really how which terminology to use to describe my question which makes it difficult to look for a solution. Any help appreciated.

When I make my browser window smaller my site's background doesnt get smaller with it. so every on the site/page moves a long but the background doesnt. This kind of screws up my design. How can I fix this?

I am using prestashop by the way

What you are encountering here is a HTML and CSS browser compatibility issue. I would recommend you learn CSS and fix it that way.

Should really aim for repeating backgrounds for backgrounds Jessica, have you a link to the page in question?

You're going to have a tricky time getting those to work in all resolutions, what you need to do is split up the images so it's not all just one image, then have a header image, a left column image and a right column image, but because the images are of fixed dimensions, this is not going to be easy.

Hi jessica landon,
Upon the view of the site, I understand your current situation.
The background interest of the endeavor is in the proportion of 1680 x 1050 pixels (W x H) and is a JPG format. (this will make the site appear good at the the same specified resolution of the Computer's Display Monitor (or perhaps greater - my Computer's Display Monitor's Resolution peaks at 1360 x 768) only, as the background image containing the various images is of a fixed size and is sepaprated from the "<body> .. </body>" (whch contains the sites actual contents and that which appears to fluxuate to accomodate sizing of the browser) of the "<html> .. </html>" structured page).
The concluded Target Computer Display Monitor Resolution for optimum view is 1680 x 1050 px. In the aspect of the common viewer using a common web browser I would tend to incline my graphical target viewer/browser to the 1024 x 768 px setting of a Computer's Display Monitor Resolution.
I hope this may be of some additional asisstance, jessica landon.
