Well... Well... Your cheating >:( I'll... I'll... Go eat some cake that I got from Portal.

-------
Actually im not cheating, i take networking classes and we go through this stuff all the time (its fun to send this in the dos)
allstar
/Sarcasm smile.gif

Anyways, I didn't think you were cheating. Too bad my school doesn't provide any sort of class like that. Plus we're working on Crapintosh's which doesn't use DOS.

Well anyways, thats basically all I can do as I don't know much more than that. I prefer to self-teach myself as I learn it faster, and get it done faster.
Ed
I refuse to believe you can speak it either, an encoder is not fluency wink.gif

To be able to fluently talk in binary you would have to memorize a large percentage of the ASCII table, then be sitting there translating 'EVERY' decimal representation for that character to binary. Sure it's possible, but no one has that much time.
allstar
Stare at some numbers all day long and learn bits and bits of it off the internet.

Maybe I "cheat" (ohmy.gif) on parts of it, but thats for exceptionally hard parts like the waffles word tongue.gif

Well that was obvious wink.gif

I had a think and it would be pretty easy to memorize a -z, A-Z and 0-9 as you only have to memorize three numbers 48, 65 and 97, you've only got to make a small addition, first number is for integers (upper boundary is 48 + 9, 57; which is '9'), second for upper case (65 + 25, 90; which is 'Z') and third for lower case (97 + 25, 122; which is 'z'), providing you know how decimal is written in binary, I guess it's not totally infeasible.

My attempt at 'Hello' using this method:

128 64 32 16 8 4 2 1

0 1 0 0 1 0 0 0
72 - H

0 1 1 0 0 1 0 1
101 - e

0 1 1 0 1 1 0 0
108 - l

0 1 1 0 1 1 0 0
108 - l

0 1 1 0 1 1 1 1
111 - o

Yeah, far too cumbersome to write a whole sentence in. tongue.gif

ROFL Passing binary notes...LOL

Hello all.

All this talking in binary business reminded me [for some weird reason] of the Turing-inspired Internet lady who's always online, always ready to talk/chat with you in real time and always willing to listen to your problems. Always.

Maybe you folks know her already -- her name is Eliza and those of you who haven't met her yet, you can say hello to her here.

This is actually a rather crude/simple implementation of the Turing Test and works best if you type in longer questions. There's even a commercial Flash version available somewhere else on the Net that you're supposed to add to your site to attract visitors [although I seriously doubt its effectiveness].

Why does it feel like none of you really know any true binary where you could input functions and get something out of it. It seems like you are using a generator. Hmm...maybe its just me.
Colin
Didn't you see post #10?...Hmm...I guess you can't read binary ehh? rofl

input functions?

You're referring to writing a function to convert it? I wrote one in php for decoding Colin's message (after stripping all the new lines):

CODE
#!/usr/bin/php
<?php
$binary = $argv[1];
$converted = $byte = '';

for($i = 0, $len = strlen($binary); $i <= $len; $i++)
{
   if($i % 8 == 0)
   {
       $converted .= chr(bindec($byte));
       $byte = '';
   }

   $byte .= $binary{$i};
}

echo $converted, "\n";
?>

Colin did admit to using a generator in his binary:

I have passed binary notes in class... But it took far too long so we switched to Hex. happy.gif
I used to know it pretty well (and could say "Hello" in binary out loud without pausing at a fairly rapid pace), but I've lost some of my mad skillz.
If I'm writing it online though, I just use a generator.

To piss off my friend (whom I was passing notes to in binary - he's a wee bit on the slow side when it comes to decoding), I wrote pi to 50 places (by memory) in binary in a note to him. He thought I was writing some exciting novel. After he decoded to first 4 characters he was like, "YOU SPENT 45 MINUTES WRITING PI?!" But in the middle, I actually wrote, "Brandon likes boys."
I wonder if he ever found it.
yves
Are you Brandon?
