Somebody...Alex I think, mentioned that Jack was having the same problem so I decided maybe this should be a bug report? Basically I can't connect to the IRC. I could a couple nights ago but now I get a connection error:

* Looking up irc.zymic.com
* Connecting to irc.zymic.com (66.252.28.182) port 6667...
* Connection failed. Error: Connection timed out

You guys don't connect on a different port or something, do you? Strange, since I'm assuming it's running for other people from what I know of, and I can connect to other servers just fine.
Jack
Yep, same problem, was running fine sad.gif

Tried resetting router, IP, different computers, clients, etc, it just wont even show any sign of connecting.

So in the end I just bought a Socks5 proxy, and I'll use that to access the IRC, providing it works.. just awaiting order info - I can't go days without the IRC, not only can I communicate with members, its also our main chat option for staff members.

I'll look into some DNS issues, but it wont connect via IP either, so leads me to suggest it isn't a DNS problem.

:/
Becky
I just talked to Brett; he said he can't connect either. Hmm...I know you're in the UK but what ISP are you on, Jack? I know Brett and me are on the same (Verizon FiOS)
Jack
Pipex, the problem is weird, all other IRC's work. It has to be a problem with our configuration, I can't see what else it is. Perhaps pester Alex more :/
Alex
Hey, no pestering me wink.gif.

As far as I'm aware there isn't a firewall on the server - and if there is it was there when you logged in before. It also can't be Glines/Klines etc because with the new ircd there aren't many (and the few I've added are part of what seems to be a botnet that tries to use irc.zymic.com as their personal meeting place). So unless you have one of these IP addresses: 202.168.245.12, 78.20.255.230 or 210.213.170.239 then it must be something further up the line. Can you both get ping replies? (ping 66.252.28.182)

EDIT: Oh, and yeah 6667 is a valid port.
Jack
"Request times out" when ping'd.

Could you run a DNS report on irc.zymic.com please @ http://www.dnsstuff.com/ (I ran out of credits so it wont let me unless i signup).
Alex
[ERROR: The parent servers say that the domain irc.zymic.com does not have any NS records (although they may have some other information on that zone). I can not do a DNS report on a hostname (such as mail.example.com) or a domain name that does not have its own zone.]
Ed
Hmm. Odd, what does this respond (Jack / Becky):

Windows:
CODE
nslookup irc.zymic.com

Linux:
CODE
dig irc.zymic.com

Is it still pointing to the old IP address?

Temporary fix might be to add an entry to your hosts file:

Edit this file:
CODE
%SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Add an entry like:
CODE
66.252.28.182   irc.zymic.com

Sounds like a DNS caching issue though, does the IP address work?
Jack
nslookup irc.zymic.com
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: irc.zymic.com
Address: 66.252.28.182

Cant connect to IP either.

Tried adding to hosts/ still not working. Ticking ircd company as I type.
Becky
Yeah I tried to use the IP before too. No lucky sad.gif
Magnus
Have you guys tried connecting through tor or a shell?
Ed
Magnus:
It used to work, but then one day, it stopped. Nothing had been changed either.

Have you tried the SSL enabled version? Port: 6670

Though I doubt that'll make any difference.
Alex
At least after we moved provider almost all users can connect.

I wanna get on zIRC :[
Alex
Can always use web services like http://ircatwork.com/

Request timed out.
Request timed out.

I tried 6670, still nothing. I wonder if our ISP is blocking your IRC server for some reason? Strange since I can get on other servers.
Ed
Appears we have been blacklisted by shadowserver:

Becky
Wtf is shadowserver, and how is that stopping me from connecting? tongue.gif
Alex
If your ISP or some machine along the line uses that DNSBL then they might drop your attempted connection. I'm wondering why we're blacklisted, someone tried to set up a botnet at one point, but we shut it down with liberal chankills. If they decided we weren't to be trusted in that short space of time then kudos for the speed of their reaction, but it's very irritating that they would blacklist us and then not provide any means (apart from maybe mailing lists) to get ourselves removed, there are no botnets around right now.

Yeah, it's all a bit lame.

As I gather, it is like a service that allows people to report botnets, as well as they have set up honeypots (purposely vulnerable clients); apparently we (or the people who previously owned the IP address) were running a botnet so we have been flagged. So my guess is ISP's use this blacklist to protect their clients. That's why some can connect, others can't.

There isn't even anywhere obvious to request removal nor were we given any warning either.

Guess the next step is to request a new IP address.
Colin
I can't connect either...This stinks, I don't go on IRC alot but sometimes I do tongue.gif
